That's a nice story. I get the feeling that some ADs, who may actually be enthusiasts themselves in addition to running a business, are merely trying to vet customers to ensure that each watch goes to someone who will genuinely appreciate it.

Congrats on your acquisitions!

Congrats, man. You sound like a genuinely nice guy, and I'm sure that's why the SA took a shine to you.

I hope to one day be badass enough that I can just turn to the wife and say "Hey, I'm buying a $15K watch, why don't you grab yourself one too!"

Incoming... what’s all the fuss about??

I have to admit that I don’t keep up very much with what’s going on in the Rolex market, ADs, greys, etc. The first time I took a pause from watches and came back, my GMT BLNR was selling for $10k pre-owned and people were complaining about 3 -4 month waiting lists. I was confused but it didn’t affect me. I actually had to post of TRF and ask you guys to catch me up...

The second time I took a pause and came back late last year, I was simply floored with what I read on TRF. Waiting lists in years to infinity, watches selling for 1.5x to 2.0x MSRP... BLRO, Daytona Panda, SD Blue and SuB LV nearly impossible to get.

With this saga going on for years, I’ve actually never walked into an AD to buy a watch. Why would I? What I learned on TRF tells me that I’d have to build a long standing relationship, buy several models I don’t want, wait months and years, have my warranty card held hostage, and did I read this correctly?? Have my watch engraved?? (I saw that a couple of days ago on TRF - that’s appalling!!)

No thank you! I love my sheltered life, buying grey and pre-owned and not having to deal with any of that.

Well, 2 weeks ago, my wife and I are shopping together and she says: “...let’s go check out some watches...” I start getting grumpy. I’m projecting all the frustration of TRF members onto this AD, already dreading the visit...

we browse the incredibly slim Rolex display and even my wife is confused with a sea of Datejusts with different dials. We strike up a conversation with this lovely sales representative. I start by telling her that with the shortage of watches, I’ve really moved on and started buying pre-owned and grey. We share stories from our past, family, travels and love of different watches. Ironically, we don’t talk Rolex... we spoke of Jaeger LeCoultre, AP, Franck Mueller, Patek, Breguet, etc.

An hour and a half goes by and I didn’t realize how late it was. We begin parting ways and she asks: “what Rolex are you in the market for...?”

Me: “Well, I don’t know... every Rolex I want is unavailable so I guess I don’t have an answer...honestly, I’d take any sport model if I ever came across one but for now, I’ll stick to Jaeger LeCoultre...”

So 2 days ago, I hear from her and she says to come in, she has a surprise for me...We went in today and there she was, in all her glory!! I still don’t believe it and more importantly, I don’t get it... I asked her multiple times, are you sure this is for me??

I was also asked by several customers and staff members, how long did you have to wait??

Waiting time: 10 days but really zero... I wasn’t waiting
Stickers: Removed at my request
Warranty card: provided
Level of appreciation: forever grateful

I was so grateful and excited with the purchase that I turned to my wife and said, you have to buy a watch too! It took some convincing but I knew she had her eye on a two tone ...but she takes forever deciding...

So we bought her watch too!

That’s an amazing story, there is still hope! Looks like a casual conversation without pushing for a watch from your end made the difference!

Congrats!!!!

Congrats. It seems the SA really liked you.

I can hear the frustration for the 1000s on the 'list' at that particular AD!
