I'm aware of my surroundings. Often, I'm with clients that earn modest salaries. I don't like to slap them in the face with a Rolex. This could negatively affect a deal or transaction. Instead, I'll wear something a little less recognizable.

Does your Rolex ever make you unconfortable

It seemed like a big decision.

I felt tremendously self conscious the first few weeks I was wearing it. I knew what it cost but of course almost no one else did. And yeah, like everyone says hardly anyone noticed. I worked almost exclusively in marine photography at the time so a few people knew what it was but not most. At worst, I figured coworkers just considered it an eccentricity.

Now of course it's just the watch I put on in the morning. I still get a lot of enjoyment from it but have long since gotten over being self conscious. But I understand how a new, first time expensive watch owner could feel that way. In retrospect I think it's been one of the best purchases I have made for myself.

A bit harsh? You are being kind, sir.

I felt the same way after buying my first Rolex due to the price I paid. I would feel the same over any expensive item, ensuring to take care of it. I felt the same about my car, which it not luxury or flashy by any means.

Sometimes I need to expand the bracelet; usually it fits just fine.

I had a rare incident lately where I felt uncomfortable wearing my SD43. I typically don't concern myself with who sees my watch or who doesn't, but this time I was at a neighbor's house on their back deck. BBQ type of setting, very casual (t-shirts flip-flops) and I was standing a drinking a beer with my watch hand and noticed my neighbor's wife staring directly at my watch. It was the sort of thing that since she was seated her eye level was right at the level of the watch when I was drinking it. She couldn't help but see it and I could tell she had that "he's wearing a Rolex" look on her face. They are good friends of mine and I did feel a little uncomfortable. I think it may have looked like I was flashing it even though I certainly wasn't. This is a very working/middle class neighborhood and I generally prefer not to give off the look of money or wealth. However I still wear my watches every day and won't change that. I tend to drink with my OTHER hand when in situations like that - not so they won't see my Rolex but more so they won't think I am TRYING to have them see my Rolex if that makes sense.

I have honestly only had one person recognize, or at least let me know they noticed, my Rolex. It’s never been an issue with me. Although I work in a sector that most people aren’t going to be wearing one or expecting someone to wear one.

Who cares? Nothing but doom and gloom. You can be robbed and not be wearing any watch. Or live in fear of coronavirus and never leave your house again. All of this is just nonsense

I once ended up (erroneously) drunk in a cab with a pimp in gangland London, wearing my Nautilus 5990! That was pretty uncomfortable, but to be honest, the watch was a worry, but not my biggest worry!

I don’t flash my watches around, if I’m hanging on to the rail above my head on the tube, I will hold it with my right hand and not my left, no point in attracting attention. Other than that, never really give it any thought.

I am a person that hates to attract much attention, less then average attentions fits me just perfect. And that goes with everything not just my watch. I know some times when I rather choose to put on Pulsar or Police rather of less price then my Rolex just because I believe it might attract the wrong type of attention. Like with some of my relatives. The reason is not that I am embarrassed or anything. I just know that we got a very different point of view when it comes to money and how to manage and spend it.

So does your Rolex or any other expensive watch ever make you uncomfortable or give you the wrong type of attention?
Most likely, if wearing Steel or White Gold Rolex nobody will know what you are wearing or frankly will not care as there are so many Rolex in the wild. If you are wearing Yellow or Rose gold, that will command some attention, so you might not want to wear that. Even if you had a gold Casio, Pulsar, whatever it will still gain attraction just due to the color.

You notice it more than people around you, like when you buy a new car or something similar you feel like everyone is looking at you really nobody cares.. Enjoy your watch!

I live in Miami, it seems everyone has a Rolex. I knew a guy who cleaned pools back in the mid 90s that had a sub. Anyways, people notice these things here. I have a bluesy I used to wear all the time, I got a preowned YG DD and have worn it maybe 4 times in 20 years, it makes me uncomfortable. My daily for the last couple of years has been an Explorer II with a rubber band, I travel with it and it is very low key.

Just answering the OP’s question. I love my Rolex, I enjoy wearing it, but I have been on vacation in a few different spots around the world where I found myself putting it away based on the surrounding area. It’s the exception and not the norm though.

Who cares you ask? Possibly anyone traveling to/through certain parts of London, New York, Chicago, Barcelona, Johannesburg, Sao Paulo, Paris, etc.

Amazing how you can just answer exactly what the OP is asking and still get flamed around here lately.

I think the term "who cares?" is another way of saying "I don't care".

If your watch is insured, relax and enjoy it. Exercise situation awareness and behave accordingly.

The OP was along the lines of a recognition of the envy of others, as opposed to being targeted by criminals.

This is actually very relevant to me. I work in non profit and we get our salaries off donations. Even though I can technically do anything with my hard earned money, it does not give a good impression to donors by driving expensive cars and wearing expensive watches.

I currently wear a Tudor black bay 58 to work as most won't recognize the brand or watch. If someone glances and sees the Rolex word or crown on a watch I'm wearing, it will leave an impression on even people who aren't into watches.

I was told once in a previous work place by a colleague (who also wore Rolex, but not to work) that I should not wear my watch as it will go against me when it comes to promotions and pay rises, with the reasoning being jealousy/he has plenty of money (not true!) etc.

I took on board the advice and....continue to wear mine each day in that job and every job I’ve had since then.

I can see the logic in his advice, which was genuine, but It’s not my problem if it impacts others. That’s their problem. And if it does go against me then so be it.

When I retired after my Military service and became a Contractor overseas is when I could afford a Rolex. I always wanted one but knew that the cost was too steep. When I did get my first Sub. there were a few times that I hid it under my sleeve or put my wrist out of sight so the other person would not think that perhaps I was being snobby.

Later in Life .....I now appreciate my simple Explorer I and after only 3 months a young man noticed it and stated "That's a nice Explorer"! I replied Thank you and left it at that. I enjoy it and really don't think twice what others may Think or not if they see my watch is a Rolex..........Enjoy it for yourself.

My dad gave me sage advice when I was a kid. That “if I care about what other people think of me, then I will always be their prisoner”.

Thanks dad.

No, of course not, never! My everyday Sub is such an "under-the-radar" watch that I usually forget I'm even wearing it until I need to know the time!

Look I don't get any pleasure out of her looking at my watch, I said it made me uncomfortable. I was three feet away from her, she was sitting on a high-top chair and looked directly at it for several seconds. I don't particularly care if you don't believe it happened or not, and honestly it's no big deal. The question was if wearing your watch ever makes you feel uncomfortable and I pointed out a rare situation. No need to act like that and if someone is full of themselves I would take the $100 bet that it's you.

Of all the people I would be around in my daily activity - at work, with the kids, running an errand - I've yet to hear from one person who noticed the watch on my wrist.

Nice shoes - however - get a mention about every day.
