It's funny.
The current case is actually bigger, so it's a "super supermaxicase". The horns lengthen and are 0.5mm less at the end, but everything else is larger in size. So the supermaxicase is better, and historical format. How can we say that the old was a mistake when the new is worse? You really have to be stupid ![]()

I wonder if 'highly polished' examples will be sought after in 20 years

The fact that Rolex dialed the maxi case back after just one generation of Subs (instead of spreading it to Sea-Dwellers and other lines) speaks volumes.

I don't like any of the funny shaped offerings from Omega or Seiko either. Especially the dated looking oval spoony affairs. Some people love those too. Yet to try the revised Sub but I doubt it's going to beat a 16610.

When the 12 was released and TRF went crazy regarding the changes I thought maybe I shouldn’t have waited and not bought my 11 Sub in July, after seeing the new references on Friday I realised it’s all hype, the normal person wouldn’t notice / care.
How long will this go on and on about maxi case/Blockhead being a mistake, it wasn’t for over 10 years, just enjoy what reference you have, it’s pointless having polls which is best it DOESN’T really matter. |

Never has 0.5mm been so much discussed, in detail, in the history of mankind ..

I have to say I agree with Nathan on this one - spot on. The new Sub has better proportions but we are talking about incremental improvements.

Only the small wristed can get so excited about 0.5 mm....
![]() I like both, though I think the 11* series has more style. |

I've always felt the supercase Rolex Submariners and the like had an unbalanced design especially when you look at the previous generation five digit references. The size of the watches is not the issue, it's the shape of the watch as a whole.
The hulking lump of a case with blocky square tip lugs that span out and lead to a wildly staggered and drastically narrowed bracelet gave it an unbalanced top heavy appearance. The newly released 2020 Rolex watches has made progress by slimming the lugs, reducing the case thickness, and at the same time widening the bracelet to give it a more gradual and sleeker silhouette.

The new subs look effeminate with the slim lugs. Too girly for my taste.

I believe the widened lugs weren't for aesthetics but to allow greater polishing over the years without having to judge the case too damaged to use. I agree that it was a mistake as the average time between services is about 10 years and not five as it used to be considered. Actually I'll side with five digit reference shape and neither the Supercase nor the 41mm case. Quote:

Two things:
If you ignore the whole "Rolex made a mistake" part, the C&C video is actually spot on about everything else. I know you're never ever supposed to wear the Sub on anything but the bracelet, but somehow I get the feeling this mantra was created by fatboy owners who realized that the fat lugs just don't go well with anything other than the bracelet. As a serial strap switcher, I want my Sub to look good on a NATO or even on leather. The last Sub doesn't - the new one does. |

Nope, not fat unless your magnifying the lugs vs the rest of the watch which is a ridiculous way to look at it. Your watch btw, outstanding!!

C&C is just a retail store and their opinion is not relevant. They are fishing for attention pure and simple.

I think all of the Submariners from each generation look great. It is a matter of preference and not a mistake.

Why should i give a flying f__k what C&C says?
That's like giving even a smidge of value to what Gartman has to say about finances / stocks. Whatever he says, do the opposite and you're golden :)
