The suggestions of going for the sub for bezel durability if he is more rough with watches is just dumbfounding when we are talking solid gold watches here.
It’s like saying the vanilla ice cream is better for you since it has slightly less calories than the chocolate ice cream. You’re eating ****ing ice cream at the end of the day. Vintage steel watches can suffer from “sleeve polish”, and PCLs on steel watches can completely lose their polished surface over time from normal non abusive wear too. Gold watches are like butter in comparison to steel so if he has any intention of keeping a solid gold piece in good shape, dent and ding free with good sharpness and finishing it takes complete wrist awareness at all times including no resting the left wrist on desks or having sleeves rub on it. The bezel durability does nothing to improve durability of these gold watches that have polished surfaces that scratch if you sneeze on it. I agree with the several comments about had it been an LB vs LN sub it would make for a more even playing field, and I will add if it was an 116508 with a non meteorite dial even more so. But the LN sub and meteorite daytona are in different leagues, making for a landslide win for the Daytona. |

I have a YG blue sub and a WG silver face daytona. Both are amazing. I honestly can’t decide between which two I like best. They both have their time and place. I wear my YG pretty much all the time. Yard work, river slash lake trips. Hunting at the ranch. So in that case I don’t baby that one. The Daytona on the other hand, not sure I would do all those things wearing it. Either way both great watches. Can’t go wrong. Well I can say the YG sub is a loud one…but HELL I love that thing.

I have a 116618 LN and 116508 black dial w/ champagne subdials. I truly love both watches and they are my favorites in my collection. If I had to pick one, it would have to be the Daytona. I also think that Daytona posted by Longhorn is the most beautiful current production Rolex piece. If I came across one at my AD, I would not be able to pass it up.

Screwly That last daytona with the diamond markers are a subtle but nice touch! There's something special about gold watches and the meteorite gold daytona just screams attention. If I had the irrationality, definitely would go gold daytona but the sub isn't anything to frown upon.
Definitely wouldn't bring the sub anywhere under the ocean. A friend, who is an abalone diver wears a rubber G shock because metals attracts curious predators easily. |

Unless you are an ultra VIP, you’re not getting that Daytona reference at MSRP. If you buy it grey… I’m not sure what to say

For me I'd pick a gold sub anyday of the week over a gold Daytona.

Both are absurd but if this is the choice it’s the Sub for two reasons: Glidelock and 116500LN.

There is no way any Daytona looks better than this.
The sub blows it out of the water. |

Both are nice. I have a rose gold Daytona and love x10 times over my ss panda version. A friend has yellow gold white dial, gorgeous.
My plan is to add a YG Sub black dial in Summer, classic looks great more iconic in a way. ( blue one not my cup of tea) can’t go wrong see if demos available. Or friends/grey dealers have to try in. not into meteorite, watch doesn’t need extra decoration/visual texture

Lol I think everyone should have both! But my order was Daytona first then the sub.
I do default more to sub just because I feel like the Daytona bezel is more scratch prone but both I think are musts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

For me it’s the Sub because of the ceramic bezel, and I personally went with Blue sunburst over Black dial. But, if the Daytona ever gets a ceramic bezel, with a meteorite dial, look out!!!

A Sub is my vote, also. For the same reason. The timing bezel is just more practical in my daily life. There are forum members who seem to be pretty hard on their ceramic bezel pieces and haven’t complained about broken inserts. Those are usually freak accidents, from what I read. Get what you like better. IMO, the Daytona is better looking in many ways with more options, but it’s harder to read and has complications on the dial I find useless. Daytona all the way. These photos are amazing. The subs don't really do it for me, at least for now.

I think you're referring to the 116505 if you mean meteorite Daytona in rose gold.
