36mm is definitely too small. Unless you already own a 36 with sentimental or legacy value to it, get a larger and more contemporary size that's better suited for today and beyond, e.g. 39+.

I think each watch design warrants a "perfect" size independent of the wearer.

Like a diver is a little cramped at 40mm, but something like an OP or simpler DJ or Explorer is perfect at 36mm

I have a small wrist and used to think 36 was totally normal, despite my Daytonas and GMTs being larger. I even recently re-upped with another DD36. But I also have a DD40 which looked huge at first, now it looks good. Perspective changes after wearing something for a day or two. Can easily go back and forth, but sometimes the contrast is shocking.

A 36mm looks very good on most wrists. Not as popular, but even the smaller 34mm Oyster Perpetual or vintage Air-King looks great in my view. The proportions are balanced and handsome. But you might find yourself wanting a bigger one too.

I love this watch! I have a picture trying on earlier in the thread. I should have bought it but I had just picked up a two tone Explorer and I don’t like having watch debt.

Looks amazing! I’ll likely get this watch in the near future. How are you liking it? Can you post a few more pics please?

I myself have been back and forth on the 36 vs 41 size and will be going back to the AD for a final try on to try to truly determine a size to purchase (or at least be put on a list for). I have 7.25 wrists and when i put the 41 on i was like wow this feels a bit to big and then when i put the 36 on i was like this feels better and looks about right...

The only time i felt it looked "small" was when looking at the dial, the watch total size i think overall was perfect, it was just the dial that i think would take some getting use to and during the first try was like... hmm maybe to small?

As i am reading over all these posts to decide for myself i wonder if some of us feel the total watch is to small or just the dial?

I agree that for the size of wrist you cite the 36mm is ideal and will look like a 40mm watch does on a 7.5 inch wrist.

I’m 7 3/4 so 36mm is a tad too small for me, but I regularly wear 39mm and don’t find them too small.

It’s a great size. I have a 6.75 inch wrist and I prefer a DD 36 on me over the DD 40

However, I prefer the DJ 41 over the 36. Go figure

And yes, I know the dJ 41 is really a 39

6.75" wrist size here. Personally, I find 38mm to be ideal for my wrist, but can easily go 2mm either direction very comfortably. Also depends on the watch design (e.g., does it come with rotating bezel? Is it all dial? etc. etc.). That said, 36mm is a well-rounded option for most.

weird proportions. it has a thick bezel which shrinks the dial and makes it look like it's 34-35mm instead. it actually wears smaller than a dj36 even though it has a larger case side by side

Photos can be very misleading when it comes to watch size. 36mm in my eyes is a small watch for the average sized adult male wrist.

My wrist is 6.75" and while I have owned a 36mm Datejust, no matter how much I try I feel 36mm looks small.

Close up pictures that members post distort perspective in addition to wider lenses adding to making them appear larger.

That being said, it's all about trends and I am glad it seems smaller is making it's way back..

38mm is perfect for me and no bigger than 40mm.

Sports watches are supposed to wear larger. The DJ isn’t. It was designed as a smaller, dressier, piece.
