Nice pickup, congrats! I tried a demo on the other day and love the blue. Too bad I don't have the frame to pull it off. Love the complication, so useful.

Last November I asked my AD if they would put me on their blue dial SS Sky Dweller list. I particularly liked the look of it on the Jubilee bracelet and since all my Rolex watches are on Oyster bracelets, I thought it was about time for a Jubilee. I was expecting to be politely refused but to my surprise and delight, they slotted me on.

All I then had to do was live long enough! I was thinking 3-5 years. I was wrong. I got the call last Saturday. Near enough six months. Don’t ask me how. Maybe they like us, maybe I've been paradoxically lucky, maybe people on lists are thinking twice and passing? Who cares! This is a gift horse whose teeth I will not count.

The view at the AD is that generally speaking, people who are, if you will, "traditional" buyers of brands like Rolex (as opposed to the credit limit heroes) aren't particularly inconvenienced by recessions and will probably come out of this one with more assets. They don't tend to change buying habits.

I’m familiar with the Sky Dweller and have big love for it but I’m still stunned by the beauty of this blue/Jubilee variant.

“I’m done now” I told the Rolex buyer. “Yeah, right, you always say that” was his reply. He has a point. But apart from maybe a PM crowning piece or a bigger Daytona with a date function, there are no more Rolex models that I envisage ever potentially owning.

The “what my AD said bit”.

Watches are coming in just fine. Last Saturday alone they sold 14 Rolex watches, all on allocation, with more lucky winners, me included, coming in this week and next to collect theirs. I also got some clarification on the constantly moving narrative on GMT and Sky Dweller spare bracelets. They were told, as were we, that owners of GMT Masters and Sky Dwellers which could be ordered with either Oyster of Jubilee bracelets, were eligible to buy a spare of the other type. I wanted a Jubilee spare to go with my Oyster BLRO. This is no longer the case in the UK. If you want to swap you can but the RSC will keep the old bracelet. Did I misunderstand this? Not according to my AD. Rolex have either U-turned or possibly didn’t originally communicate their intentions with enough clarity.

Must go now. I want to do some more cartwheels.
I thought you wanted the WG blro? You have more than enough to consolidate some, say by to the tt and and addd some cash! :)

Wear in good health (and mind you don't hurt yourself with those cartwheels).

Again, thank you all. It's true, I'm a huge fan of this reference. I won't necessarily be overflowing with objectivity. I was going to sell the black one but I've had second thoughts. It's so nice in its own right and on the Oyster it's sufficiently different for me.

It does look a bit awkward in my wrist shot. This is because I was at the AD in artificial lighting and had my wrist and the phone at odd angles to get it lit. I wore it home and if it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't stop looking at it, I would have forgotten I was wearing it. I don't find the Oyster uncomfortable but the Jubilee really is a step up in wearing comfort (as many already know) - for me at least. I'll bang out some more wrist shots at some point.

To my eyes, the Jubilee bracelet adds a bit of visual bulk. This is something I will get used to. It looks a bit bigger than it actually is on my wrist. For the case design I'm on my max. I have a 45mm that wears small and comfortable because the case back is flatter and the lugs curve more. I've also tried a Navitimer B04 GMT 48mm which I thought would look ridiculous but actually looked good.

If I do go for a crowning collection piece, either by saving or consolidating, it would likely be a WG BLRO, assuming I could get one at MSRP or below at some point. I don't know if a PM would go with me well enough. Only one way to find out, but that's for another day/year/decade/never.

The blue Sky dweller was a "well, he can only say no moment". A shot in the dark which just happened to be at the right time in the right place. I could have stopped last year. Now that I'm past my mental Rolex finish line as opposed to on it, I'm thinking about other things and I'm going to put the emphasis on enjoying the hell out of all my watches. Shouldn't be difficult.

I'm inclined to lean towards the 'you got lucky' part of your question.

Either way, congrats, it's a stunner!

Congrats!

I believe that nobody is passing on a Sky-Dweller for list at any AD. Beside me, see :

My story, October last year I decided I wanted a Sky-Dweller. As you, I thought the wait would be years.
I was happy with that as I had other watches on order and also bought a few others at that same AD during the course of 2021.

But one month later, in November, I got a call from my AD saying that 'my SD' hat arrived. I was stunned.
I told her so. She replied, oh we just got it in and called you being the last person on the list.
And it was just the way I wanted it too.
But, as I stupidly thought, it was a little too soon as I just spend a small fortune on other watches and I politely declined and said I'll wait for the next one.

Well, that was a lesson learned, I'm now for sure on 'a list' and will have to wait the years I expected to begin with. With that difference I now know I was utterly and thoroughly stupid not to accept their kind offer. I was being treated the VIP way and by refusing the watch I lost that status.

You still have it, enjoy it!

Cool! Good luck (which you seem to have) and be happy!

It'll be one fine day when we can go into a shop and actually buy the watch right then and there, but until that time, a few months will have to do.

Beautiful! Congratulations! At the top of my list … just after a meteorite Daytona, anyway.

Big congrats, beautiful watch.

But no, hardly anyone is passing on a blue dial Sky-D from the AD.

yeaaa, you got lucky LOL. This is a "flip" worthy piece, even today. Selling all day for $30-$32,000 in the groups.

Congrats on getting the watch you wanted. Beautiful.

IMHO, a lot of AD waitlists contain a lot of people on multiple lists and many who just time out after a few years. Current economics also a part of this, but mainly this causes the early surprise arrivals
