If it is the watch you want, get it... Discounts may come but not for some time and it won't be at ADs for a while.

Is this what some of you actually believe? Do you really think that Rolex and its AD’s will be giving out discounts on SS sport references?

My AD called — do I pull the trigger in a falling market?

I don’t understand the negative comments. He’s been completely up front and I can completely understand his situation.

The LV is his dream watch. He has the opportunity to get it from an AD. He can afford it, but any savings below retail would be meaningful to him. He’s simply asking if other posters think it will go below retail, given the market has declined recently. I think almost everyone thinks the LV will not go below retail. That’s really the only response he’s looking for.

Looking forward to seeing the Incoming thread…

IMHO - If you're not okay with it depreciating, I would not personally buy it.

No one here can tell you what is going to happen with price. We just don't know. IMHO, assuming any Rolex you buy will depreciate in value makes sense and, if you can assume that and you still want the watch, then purchasing it makes sense.

That's just my personal opinion.

If you’ve waited this long, that watch is gone.

I don’t think he cares about depreciation. It’s his dream watch - he’s buying it to keep it. He’s just asking if, given the recent market trend, he would have the opportunity to buy at a discount if he waits longer.

I mean... it's your grail watch right? why worry about price falling further if it's your grail watch. I'd just get it if it was my grail, especially when it's from an AD at MSRP.

Buy it, no reason to wait especially if you are buying it to enjoy owning it. As someone said earlier, outside of nukes flying or the zombie apocalypse these steel sports watches are not going to be discounted anytime soon and will only get more expensive every year.

In that case, my mistake, as I misunderstood the original context.

Still, I don't think anyone has a clue what is going to happen on the pricing side.

Buddy, didn't you call this watch your grail?? If that's not your answer, I don't know what is. The only cause of hesitation is if it really does place a strain on your personal finances. Never risk debt for a non-essential, luxury purchase; fundamentally these are Veblen goods. Even if they are high-quality Veblen goods.

BTW: I don't think you'll be getting a discount on that piece, they can sell it any day to any person. There are PLENTY of people out there who wouldn't even bat an eye at the recession or market, generally speaking there's no shortage of abundant wealth among Rolex buyers, at least that's certainly true for the clientele in my area. In fact, some have more money than sense, I would say.

No they are not up again.
Just because asking price is uP doesnt mean it’s selling

No one is buying $30k stainless daytonas ( that were $50k) anymore
Its over.
Many are selling below retail like rootbeer solid gold gmt,
White/yellow gold sub, even blue daytona is slightly above retail
( real prices)
We are back to olde days

Thank you roger — This is precisely what I was asking. I recall the day I bought my 16700 at at real discount. I don’t recall the %, but there were many steels hanging around the shop begging for a buyer. Are we heading back to that scenario? Hard to say — but as you note, I’m wanting this watch badly and I’m gonna buy it. Needed some TRF nudging, which has been much appreciated!

IMHO, will be a long time before you see it under MSRP, if ever. I would bite the bullet on your dream watch.

My money would be on price increase in 2023 based on what other luxury brands (watch and non watch) have done. So the price now is likely the best you will get and consider that a discount in an inflationary environment. Enjoy it! Hustle hard to replenish your savings.

I would definitely buy the watch. There is little to no chance of getting this reference below retail--not in the next decade, if ever. If you love it, please pull the trigger because IMHO, you will be getting "a deal." I definitely understand asking for others' opinions on this as I (quite happily) chose a career that was not particularly lucrative. However, you will not do better than this offer. Therefore, if you can afford to do so and adore the watch, go for it and enjoy for life.

Just my 2 cents worth, so please do not flame me

1) the demand for Rolex watches is far higher than what it used to be. Even my hairdresser had paid a premium to get the Batman GMT from the grey market

2) Rolex will continue to increase the RRP of its watches as seen in the past many years (even in those so called financial crisis or bad times)

3) in this connected economy, bad time to some will also be good time to some

As such, if one can get a Rolex watch from an AD at RRP (better still a popular stainless steel sports model like the Starbucks), should be a safe bet.

Why is the constantly repeated as fact on this forum and so many other areas? You guys don't fact check. Rolex didn't increase prices from '12-'20 in the US.

This 'Rolex always increases prices every year' is nonsensical drivel which was historically pushed by ADs to try and coax you into buying something that day.

DO NOT GET THIS WATCH!!

As a matter of fact, go in and tell the AD that you will only buy it with a 10% discount.

I'll even personally support you. Just tell me exactly what AD and what time so I can be there to back up your demands.

Enjoy the reference OP, it's amazing . I look forward to pics

Don't buy it.

1. Money is real, grails aren't.
This is your grail now. But honestly, there's always another grail. After this it's the GMT Pepsi, after that it's the Daytona steel, after that it's the blue skydweller, after that it's an AP RO, after that it's a blue 39mm AP RO, after that it's the patek nautilus, after that it's the 5726, after that it's the tiffany stamped... and on and on until you get to Paul Newman's own daytona... blah blah blah.

2. You don't want the watch, you want the idea of this watch
If your consideration is whether the watch's value will fall below MSRP. Then you don't really love this watch anyway, you love the money more. 3-4 years ago, every watch in the catalog was below retail except the daytona. Just strap the 106 $100 bills on your wrist. Or keep it in your pocket and take it out to the watch events and show them the money that you could have spent.

3. Why buy something that will lose value and you'll never get the true value of?
Prices are continuing to fall. When you buy it, yes maybe you'll be up but your margins will only shrink. And for what are you going to use this watch for? You're definitely not going diving with it. Maybe desk diving, dish diving, or diaper diving at most.

4. You might lose all of it.
This watch might get stolen. Someone might club you in the head to get it. Your gym locker might be broken into. If you never spent the money, you can't lose it right?

Anyway here's mine, dish diving. This is what divers are for.

First green subs may not have been discounted first year. But they were definitely discounted. Tax was covered + 10-20%. Discounts were always YMMV. Hulks were also discounted regularly.
