I think you did your watch an injustice, by bringing it to the local watchmaker.
As confident as you are with him, he cannot get genuine parts.
I’m 100% sure, that movement needed many parts.
You now have aftermarket parts in a very valuable watch.

As for my decision to not bring it to Rolex for service, I will say this.
When I first began to look for someone to refurbish my watch, I contacted a few independent watchmakers that would work on Rolex watches. One of my questions to them was if they used original Rolex parts. All of them said they did not but used aftermarket pieces that were just as good. Well in my opinion, nothing is as good as original.
After that I found the Rolex Forum and read many posts regarding the use of Rolex's Services. I have no doubt that Rolex provides excellent service, but I didn't want them to begin replacing the desirable 'vintage' parts with new parts, and therefore affecting the appearance and value of my father's watch.

As I posted before, this forum with all its knowledge and resources, led me to the decision to send my watch to Bob Ridley. During my very first conversation with Bob, he assured me that all replacement parts used in the watch would be genuine Rolex parts. I have no doubt that is what he used.

I don't know if you have used Mr. Ridley's services in the past, as to be able to comment on his inventory, but I am curious how you can say he cannot obtain genuine Rolex parts? Is this just your opinion?

I will say again they have assured me that the parts in my watch are genuine Rolex.

I have several friends who have specifically asked to NOY have the dial replaced as well as no polishing.
Why would you say I’m trolling.
I’m trying to gather information with facts that I know to be true as well as trying to be informative.

Why do you assume independent watchmakers cannot get genuine Rolex parts? Sure it's harder now than perhaps it used to be but still very possible.

Beautiful example and many years ahead of memories of your Dad. My father and I both received Red 1680s as gifts in 1973/74. I have mine still, which I have posted pictures on this forum. I also have my father’s. The Ridleys serviced mine in 2019, and when the time comes, they’ll work on Dad’s.
