No way, my wife hates luxury goods. She'd be happiest if I sold her Rolex as well as mine, and put the money in some low yield account and forgot about it.

I am right there with you. It just sounds wrong.

No. If I can only afford one Rolex, I’m probably not able to indulge in entry luxury at all.

lol no. But everyone has a different set of circumstances. I love my wife, but thankfully, I wouldn't find myself in such a situation. What she wants, she can have (icing on the cake - got a frugal wife :D)

This assumes you don’t want to cough up more cash and that you could comfortably afford what she wanted anyway without selling the Rolex.

absolutely - was just thinking about selling a watch for a nice safari as well. While I like my watches I am all about expereinces and keeping my wife happy. I would definietly sell it (one of my wacthes) if she ever gets her birkin allocation and she felt like we needed the extra bucks to make it happen.

Makes the premise of this thread kind of silly

Of course I would. The best thing to do is have multiple watches and you’ve always got something else to fall back on

Thank you for calling this out, it’s a demeaning, disrespectful term, and widely used on this site.

I'd just pay cash for the other halfs items, no need to sell the watch if not needed. If cash needed so desperately that I'm selling my watches, my wife doesnt need luxury goods either!

"a wife" seems a little non-specific.

Same here. I am now wearing my 1675 GMT that she gave my 48 years ago. Our wedding date is engraved on the back.

Some (not me) would say "my wife" is archaic-possessive or something like that. Seriously, though, it's common to say "the wife" in the UK, where we also say "the missus" or (in jest) "her indoors". These are all terms of endearment/familiarity/fun and not meant to demean our better halves. Just don't say "wifey" please. Anything but that.

Yup, in the UK at least it's a very common and endearing term that only the most snobbish of people would have a problem with.

It's a trap.

His wife found his open browser and posted this.

Don't fall for it.

It is where I live. Women here say “the husband” as well, it’s a term of endearment. First I heard of it being offensive.

MY WIFE, and proud to say it. She IS a part of me and mine, and she is happy to be part of it and I'm happy to have her. You speak your way, I get to speak mine. Ridiculous you should take a watch forum and drag in your thoughts and beliefs outside of horology. Anyway, love my wife, she has 2 Rolex I bought her. Yes, I said that because it is factual. And, to address the original question to the original poster. No, and my wife would never dream of taking away something I love and enjoy to indulge herself, and I would never repeatedly buy myself luxury items without sharing some of the excitement with her and the luxury she may enjoy. Let's please move on back to the OP. Thx.

That is awesome! We celebrate three years in April, so mine is a (slightly) newer vintage... 126610LV. I hope to wear mine for many years just as you have. If/when I decide to start growing a collection, no watch, no mater the cost or material, will be as valuable to me as this sub. Would love to see a picture of your 1675. Congrats on 48 years!

My wife and I didn't meet until our later thirties. Ever since, we have maintained our separate accounts, other than joint bills, house, etc.

She is financially independent and can buy what she wants, whenever she wants, so the answer is no.

If it was a medical emergency need...absolutely. To indulge her with a luxury good...absolutely not.

What a silly question.

On a more serious note, the little woman was been monitoring Rolex practices the last few years and she has found it beneficial to start “limiting supply” and also put me on a waiting list.

Damn you Rolex.

She should be careful, there are other brands. But long term the results of that are usually more expensive than the watches.

Absolutely. My wife is awesome and in fact I remember the first time I brought up wanting to buy a Rolex her immediate response was "I'll buy you a Rolex." She doesn't like luxury goods but in this hypothetical scenario I would sell it.

No way……the wait list for a new wife is way shorter than the wait list for a rolex

No. If we were in a position to need to sell items, it wouldn’t be to for self indulgences, let alone something that would be for just one of us. I don’t have my Rolex yet, but my wife has lately adopted a way of policing her splurge habits, a one in, one out system. She would never ask me to get rid of my things so she could have more and same goes for me.
