Although mine is fluted I totally get it.
There are definitely a few colors and dials that look best on a smooth bezel. It just looks so perfect well rounded and elegant and sporty still on oyster. If I had space for another, I would totally have a rhodium dialed smooth bezel oyster bracelet Datejust. I am not a roman’s guy but the Azzuro looks great as well.

Although I like and respect the fluted bezel, it's not for me. But I do like the jubilee.

I had a smooth / jubilee combination which initially I really liked but after a while I decided that the jubilee bracelet wasn't for me so the watch sat unused in the watch box, only getting any wrist time at a couple of family weddings.
Choice was to sell or get an oyster bracelet, I chose the latter, when I went and had the bracelet sized and fitted I was shocked at just how different it made the watch look, everything just clicked. I now have a really good looking watch, the Oyster/Smooth combination really works for me. Should I need to jazz the DJ up I still have the jubilee bracelet so can swap them over if required.

I think if I were to go down this path again, I do with what I consider to be the modern classic.

Its actually the best thing.
The DJ with blue dial, sticks, oyster bracelet is pretty much the perfect do everything watch. Its virtually flawless a text book watch. I'm 50/50 on fluted vs smooth really. Either looks fantastic. |

I was hellbent on the fact that the blue sticks and oyster was the best DJ combo. But this, with the contrast on romans, amazing. Side note, are those romans taking on the black headlining of the car or is this some black romans/handset combo I've missed along the way? |

No, the worst thing you could do is having your girlfriend (or wife) show up to your beer league hockey game.
A Datejust with smooth bezel and oyster bracelet? Classic Perfection. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I prefer it actually. So does my wife. She chose a mint green DJ, smooth and oyster. Beautiful watch. A little sportier.

The advantage of the jubilee is that it does not scratch like the PCL oyster.

Both of my Datejusts back in the day were fluted/jubilee but that was the 80’s. The choice would be much harder for me today but the $2300 extra for the WG bezel is pretty over the top even for Rolex.
I think a blue/black/white sticks dial with smooth bezel and oyster would be very GADA. |

I originally requested a fluted/jubilee from my AD. While waiting for it to arrive, I really thought it over and felt like the smooth/oyster would suit me better. My SA was very polite about the matter and was able to get me one within a couple of weeks of letting them know about my change of heart. I have no regrets whatsoever about the choice I made, and absolutely love my blue DJ.

Definitely sportier. I have a fluted with Oyster Wimbledon, which also looks sporty. I do sometimes wish I’d waited for a Jubilee, but I was offered it on a walk in. Kat. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I like both fluted/jubilee and smooth/oyster combinations.
The smooth/oyster is certainly more sporty/casual, but can also dress up. The fluted/jubilee will always be fairly dressy from the get go. Let us know what you decide |
