That is happening in many ADs over there, along with reports that 2 of them are requiring you to sign a 2yr "No sell" contract when you buy a new watch...

Incredible responses in this thread (some entertaining, some helpful on how dumb of an idea that was haha) and some mind boggling in the assumptions people make & the responses they post hiding behind a screen.... prob tierd of being bullied by other kids on their street or 0 EQ & likely people that dont even have A watch. who knows .

Also seems many folks here have wayyyyy more watches in their "collection" than the 3 I have so that was humbling. Keep the great responses and roasts coming :)

PS - half the threads in this website are one person or another asking about how they can buy a watch or a bracelet or deal with an AD or something else that's not through a grey dealer so let's not put ourselves on some high horse acting like you never think about that watch you want and how you can get one without paying a premium to enjoy on your wrist.

I also bet everyone trolling in their responses or attacking each other, if someone around here made one post saying "my AD gave me a Daytona because I bought him or her chocolates" would think to themselves if a $5 box of candy is something they should do whether they do it or not ultimately and the principle of it. And finally for those posting about getting on your knees for one, seeing that's the first thought in your heads, I bet you'd do that too for your grail but of course hiding behind a screen, everything's easy to deny and talk smack on. I just say this because we're all here for passion for watches and it's disheartening to see people just attack each other for absolutely no reason

My AD gets the posh confectionary after I get the call. As an experiment I could try giving them sweeties first, but I'm mean.

Good respectful professional conversation with AD.... good. Soft "bribe".... no so. Grovelling..... worst.

It is just a good to have material goods. Have self respect.

I’m always happy for anyone getting watches they want at retail. Unfortunately ADs don’t really tell it how it is to new customers. There are a lot of folks waiting for watches that will never be coming. Those waiting that see an incoming by someone that waited a week seem to get upset by one persons fortune.

Dumbest answers are also quite common in the site, just because someone asked a question that might not be of interest to someone.

No.

If I'm picking up a watch, I usually have my wrist bare so I can size up and wear the watch on the way out.

If I'm visiting the AD I wear whatever watch I felt like wearing when I walked out of the house. Over time and visits, I imagine they'd have seen what I have. I have no qualms wearing watches purchased elsewhere. The only watch I try not to wear to the AD is the Apple Watch.

2 on each wrist, 1 on each ankle, and the rest in your watch roll.

My AD knows my collection, even if he didn't so I see no point in doing so.

I always bring part of my collection (a.k.a. the watch on my wrist), but the entire collection ... to me, that would be braggadocios and rude. Plus, in this day and age, you better be careful carrying around a collection, depending on what you have.

Great question Toby, we often take them along to be cleaned by the AD. They use a special cleaning solvent and it gives us a chance to chat.

Especially if you have pictures with them on the occasions where you bought the Tag, Seiko, IWC and Tudor. And bring the wife along wearing her diamond earrings and emerald broach she purchased from them and has never worn. Question: do knee pads fit under khaki pants or are they more discrete under black slacks?

Do you ever take your collection to AD?

I was in the AD the other day and some did brought in his collection of like 30 high end watches and was going thru them with AD. I had a good time talking to him about his watches and he actually complimented me on my watch.

For the life of me, I still can’t figure out why he brought all those watches to a store store that sells watches.

And it must have been 300K in watches.

EDIT: After thinking about it, the guy may have been bringing them in to be appraised. Or cleaned. Or to sell. So there are reasons.

But just to share with the AD? I can’t imagine why anyone would want to do that. I’d be terrified to carry that much around with me.
