My dad received it as a gift from my gramps when he sailed across the Pacific from Hong Kong to Canada to attend university. It was bought new at the time.
He wore it regularly at the beginning but soon had it stored in a safe for almost 30 years. It was brought to an AD last month where the Rolex technician actually came down from his bunker because the sales associate called up about a "red" submariner. It took a month to service (pressure test, new acrylic, gaskets, and oil). I'm not much of a photographer so I wasn't able to get a straight shot of the dial without getting an annoying reflection. But here is a partial serial number that was written down by the technician: S/N: 3302XXXX IV.72 I've only recently read up on details regarding the red sub and am curious to know what level of fatness my bezel font is as I am still having trouble identifying them. Also, how much patina is considered ideal? Although pictures aren't the best, how would you rate the patina? Any info would be great! And what MK is it? MKIII/IV? |

What an absolute stunner! Congrats. I'd say your insert (and just about everything else) is original and perfect!
Patina is gorgeous. I'm no expert, so I couldn't say definitively what MK dial it is, but it looks a lot like mine, which is a 4. |

My humble addition
2.93 million red MK IV with III '71 engraved on the inner caseback.
Serviced with an original beveled top hat plexi, triplock tube (with the external black rubber gasket) and triplock crown and polished with exceptional bevels on thick, even lugs and crown guards. Came with a minimal stretch 93150 bracelet on 580 ends with K10 (1986) marked on the inner clasp. |

One thing I've been looking for is matching patina on the markers, hands, and the bezel pearl. I'm so terrified of losing that pearl as I know that any replacement will no longer match. It is so awesome to see all matching colours. Oh, and Matt I really dig the NATO strap. Makes me want one really bad to emulate Sean Connery's James Bond watch...yes, I know it's no big crown...But dare I dream.
Anyone have a 9315 bracelet 380 endlink rattle? Both of mine rattle and i just want to know if it's normal. |
