Eta
Didn't find ETA on the list. Here's an excerpt from A Blog to Watch:
"ETA is one of the most prevalent and powerful companies in the modern watch industry. It is Switzerland's largest movement maker with countless small and major brands relying on the products they make." |

One that seems to have slipped by, "gilt," meaning a gold lettered print dial.

But it specifically refers to printing on the dial which isn't inherently obvious from the word which is a shortening from "gilt printed."

Several years ago I coined the term POLAR to describe my white dial Explorer... and it still seems to be used quite often on TRF.

nt
It is usually used at the end of a message title to indicate that the title contains a response to someone's question and that there is no need to look at the text of the message since there is No Text (nt).

I guess FUBAR isn't an horological term. (. . . beyond all repair)

However helpful this list is to decoding the posts, please consider the new user. I'm new and sometimes have to move on without really getting the gist of the post.
If you're sitting at a keyboard, is an abrieviation necessary? For mainstream common models, sure. But I miss the point if I don't know a WIS from a NIB-DSSD NFS. And where do I find the ref numbers? I have an SS OPD, cal. 1570. How do I find a more detailed reference number? |

Some forums (like VRF) are not as sophisticated as TRF and responders sometimes answer with just a heading....no text follows and they want to make sure everyone knows not to expect anything below the heading... Life is good. Jaybrams: just saw your comments AFTER I posted this! Thanks!

How do you start a new post that isn't related to any particular thread. In other words, you are not responding to somethings that you have read....Ex., a new question you have.
