Been struggling with this one myself but coming from an older Sub Date (circa 2000 A Serial #) and trying to sort out whether to trade by Sub for the GMT II C or just buy it as a second crown. For me the GMT II C is something different and speaks to me every time I see it. That darn green hand. :) Great problem to have but can't quite make up my mind.

I struggled for two months with this same issue: GMTII vs Sub...See my previous posts for the details, but the truth is you will be happy with either watch.

I didn't need a GMT complication, and I went with this 1984 watch. The GMTII was a great second choice, I'm sure I would have been happy with it as well... Enjoy, whichever you choose...

Do you travel a lot? GMT is a great watch for the different time zone. Standard GMT I think is a little harder to read. I have Sub C (Green Annversary with bigger luminous dots hour markers and like it a lot.)

I don't spend any time in the ocean or under it, so the Sub is out. However, I do spend time in the sky above the ocean, crossing time zones, so it's the GMT for me.

The GMT IIC was the choice for me. I travel frequently and I use the second time zone quite a bit. The polished center links do scratch easily, and while the greater degree of clasp adjustment in the Sub would have been nice, the easy link and sizing options of the GMT IIC provide a fantastic fit! If you are not a diver, I can not see why you wouldn't want the extra time zone function. Even if you don't travel, the green GMT hand looks legit!

I have both and prefer the sub. I think mostly because the sub doesnt have the polished center links.

I thought the "I never dive" statement would answer it for me, too, but that blue Sub C just draws me in every time I see it.

I had the GMT-C for about 18 months but recently sold it as it lost it's 'shine' to me. Great watch & very accurate running at +1sec per 24 hrs. The PCL scratch very easily and I only wore it evenings & weekends.

The money went to another project but I am now looking at buying a SS Sub-C next year sometime. There is a UK based one in the for sale section at the moment but I don't have the cash right now, typical of my luck!!

So I vote SS Ceramic sub-date as the better of the two watches. (unless you travel a lot or fly a 747!!!)

Hey am an Aussie too!!!!!!!!!

I´ve a beautiful Blue dial Sub with SS/18K with gorgeous fade out to ivory on the hour markers......

I´ve also got a Super President with too many diamonds and gold to get a close look for all that flash....

Then the last is the Panerai Scuderai FER000018 which is a nice watch however it spends most time in the box.

Best one to wear, is the sub.....diamonds a bit much and panerai a lot uncomfortable...

Go the Sub! GMT also for me in my OHO really don´t compare in looks to the sub.

Tough choice -- I was considering both as well and bought the Sub-C -- the Sub bezel looks more classic, subtle, versatile and iconic to me, but just my opinion.

Im in this exact same boat right now too.. only diff is I have a Explorer II.. so I already have a gmt watch and a sport band.... The GMT II is nice because it a little more dress, but the sub is a sub, and brings that classic rolex look... and with only $100 price diff that dosent help at all..

The GMT is infinitely valuable if you work n different time zones or travel alot...
that being said, I stopped taking the GMT surfing because it would get sand under the bezel... if you are going to do serious ocean sports then you cant go wrong with the sub.

I initially decided on the GMT II just to be a bit different. But I wanted a blue face so the Sub won out. Either way enjoy.

GMTII I like the bezel options before the redesign. After the redesign I still like the look of the GMT II Ceramic over the Sub Ceramic.
As for function dual time is more useful than diving function for me.

Eating my own words, GMT is now the new daily wear watch, and my favorite, I really like the 24 hour comp...
