I do not "flip" or resell. A small voice in the back of my mind is telling me to throw it in a safe to see what happens in ten years. But I am disgusted at that voice because I love this watch and want to give it serious wrist time.

Time to de-sticker and enjoy life?
Buy another beat-up Hulk to use it daily and keep this in safe.

Fun factor is lost since precious cant be scratched .
All to do with market pricing .
Much more fun when it was a great watch and not $$$s ....
It is,what it is .

It is not new old stock it is a second hand watch and the state of the stickers reflect this.

It is very unlikely to be unworn unless even you have resisted the urge to view it on your wrist?

The all green SS model is not as popular to buyers and while I am sure that it will increase in value over the years this is going to be quite common with most Rolex SS ‘sports’ models.

I think there is a balance between a safe queen and a daily wearer and this is what you should consider?

Enjoy wearing it on specious occasions?

E.

Wear it or sell it. Don’t let the watch own you.

Congrats on the watch! Wear it if you want to, don’t overthink this. If you wanted to make money, you’d be better investing the 20k+ in stocks or crypto. You like the watch, wear it and smile every time you look at your wrist. The watch won’t hold it against you.

It’s only a watch…just metal and ceramic. It’ll be here long after your gone, if you don’t wear it someone else will after you. Wear it and don’t sweat the small stuff in life like this.

The funny thing is that before all the hype, the hulk wasn’t hugely popular and prior to 2018 you could find them sitting in the case just about everywhere. They were about as popular as the Milgauss.

The purpose of a toy is to be played with. The purpose of a watch is to be worn.

I totally get wanting to keep your watch pristine, but we get in our far more expensive cars and drive them every day. What is the difference in value in the watch worn versus pretty darn worn? Probably not $5k, right?

Like others here on TRF, I really, truly enjoy wearing my watches. Obviously I could buy a perfectly good watch for far, far less. I wore my Yachtmaster daily for 20 years through some pretty amazing milestones in my life. It was “Mom’s watch” for my kids growing up. I’m making new memories with my recently-acquired 16200 DateJust. I also enjoy my newest acquisition, my vintage Tudor Princess “snowflake” style-Submariner (the ladies’ version of the blue Tudor snowflake Sub). I’ve never seen another one like it in my life. I have no idea how many owners it’s had, but it was not babied at all and it’s still going strong.

As I write, I have expensive bottles of wine in my cellar, getting older each day. The winemakers poured their effort into them so that the wine would be enjoyable to drink. Decades ago, the then-wine writers for the “Wall Street Journal” started “Open That Bottle Night,” to give people like me the excuse to open that “special” bottle that’s been sitting around, waiting for the “perfect” moment that may never come. Readers were invited to share their stories. It was wonderful to read story after story of people enjoying the bottles (which often came with memories of certain people). I started adopting that, and have been pulling up super-special bottles and opening them, particularly during all of these crazy times, lockdowns, etc. Just as wearing a Rolex makes the mundane act of checking the wrist to see what time it is a special thing, so a wonderful bottle of wine makes the act of eating dinner special. I have friends in their early 70s with far, far more expensive wine opening bottles to enjoy with with friends and family.

If you just can’t bring yourself to wear it, I suggest you buy one that’s already worn, and enjoy it. Buying a used watch, I’ve found, is the best way to get over the thought of putting the first scratch in a Rolex.

Great post.
I’ll just add that to me the only reason to pay the price for a NOS piece is for to hold for future value. Nothing wrong with that. But if you really love the Hulk as many others have advised buy one to wear. One in nice condition is not cheap but much cheaper than NOS.

To pay the NOS premium to wear and beat it up makes no sense.

Yup, this. Leave the BNIB to flippers and speculators. They aren't for wearing.

The prices for NIB will always be speculative, while the prices for good/ex condition will be fundamental because people (should) intend to enjoy them.

It sounds like you should have just gotten a pre owned excellent condition example. I’m sure you paid a significant premium for unworn with stickers.
So is it an investment to protect or a watch to wear.
Your answer to that question should guide your use of the watch.
Safe or wrist?

PS it’s not a piece of history, just a discontinued mass produced watch that anyone with $10k could get a few years ago.
