Fully agree with this, although I would replace the full-gold VC with a full-gold timepiece from another brand, e.g. AP, PP (but that does not change the original concept so much).

Thank you. While needless to say, I have quite a few more pieces in the ol' watch box, the Sub, the Jumbo and the Reverso are all icons, and all pieces that fit their roles expertly.
Some folks 'round these parts here seem to have a relatively skewed version of what a proper "dress watch" is (hint: it's not a Rolex Sub or a Breitling Diver), but then the given where we are, the bias is to be expected. Besides, the days when people actually paid attention to such things is long over. Regards, Adam PS - While the three pieces I cited above are ones that I'd recommend for an ideal three-watch collection, these are the three that seem to be getting the most wrist time lately: Nope, no dress watch in that group... |

For the daily beater and weekend casual watches, I second all the choices that have been presented so far. Great pieces!
I am really surprised though at all of the chunky sports watches and multi-complication pieces being suggested for a dress watch. Call me stuffy, but I think a dress watch should be 39 mm or smaller, and have at most center/subsidiary seconds and date complications. Love the JLC Reverso examples above. A Master Control is my current dress watch: The JLC Master Ultra Thin and PP Calatraa 5127 or 5119 would be my other candidates. |

That really nails it, Joe! Since I don't have a Daytona, I'll substitute a 1016 for dress (land.)

I recognise the OP's categories from a Ken Kessler article.
I think three is a good starting point: Dressy (for semi-formal social wear and smart office wear): YG DD or TT DJ depending on budget Daily wearer (for business casual office wear and smart casual social wear): SS ceramic Sub Date Beater: G-SHOCK And if a true dress watch is required instead of a dressy sports watch, the VC Historiques Ultra-fine 1955. I also think something between the G-SHOCK and ceramic Sub Date is needed but not sure what - maybe a new Tudor. |
