I know a few of the guys on the list (Josh at Fourtane especially) but I wanted to add one more name...Justin Gruenberg from Beverly Hills. He advertises on VRF and has high praises over there.

A green (*) against a dealers name indicates that atleast 2 forumers have purchased vintage watches from a dealer here, have received them and are happy. So if atleast 2 of you have purchased a vintage watch from any of the dealers in the list, have received it and are happy with the purchase please say so here so can update the dealers name with a green (*).Also note that a single forumer purchasing 2 or more watches from a seller will be considered as one reference and not two.

Purchase Reference list: Besides the green star rating, for added green star rating accuracy, refer to this "Purchase Reference list" to get a feel of the quality of watches forumers here have purchased from their respective sellers by looking up their historic threads for posted watch pictures and making inquiries on the forum.

Please conduct your own due diligence before you make any purchases by asking questions on the forum, posting pictures, getting references, etc. Also please notify us of any concerns and if the forumers agree I can take them off this list.

But how many sellers give you a full 7 days to make your mind up and then give you a one year guarantee if you choose to keep it? Hence my recommendation.
i agree i have bought from them and they are really great seller

Thanks for the update DiamondJack, chiubak, that makes 2 happy forumers for watch purchases from Ian Blowers, adding a green star on them and adding DiamondJack and chiubak to the Purchase reference List.
Did notice that there were some issues raised to Ian Blowers website listings by some forumers on this thread (drainaps,Kyle) relating to the collectability of some watches they listed on their website. It was agreed that buyer due diligence and asking them questions about originality was necessary when buying from this UK based brick and mortar seller and they also had a 7 days no questions asked return policy and a huge stock of vintages(http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=180461). I have added in a comment to reflect that while awarding them the green star, please let me know if this should be handled any differently and am happy for a democratic debate/feedback here on this.

Also a quote from DiamondJack on them

Hi guys, just to clarify about this list, it was conceived more as a great resource for newbies like myself starting out in this hobby to be able to source vintages from tried and tested sources. Also the list is in no particular order, sellers with green stars popup on top of the list when forumers here state their happy vintage purchases from sellers on the list on a first recommmended first in the list basis and is entirely independent and based on forumers input here of their purchases, not based on the recommendations of any sellers/dealers or individual forumers.
The green star rating is more to do with happy vintage purchases at least two forumers have made from sellers on the list and a double layer of authenticity is added by the "Purchase reference list" below that, which allows you to see a listing of buyers who have kindly agreed to be part of the list, so that you can search up their threads so that you can see pictures of the quality of watches they have purchased or read up about their purchase experiences. As always and as have mentioned in bold notes in the list, conducting your own due diligence by posting pictures and asking questions on the forums to confirm originality of watches "before" making a purchase is a must on all purchases and shouldn't be done blindly, irrespective of who the sellers are or how highly recommended they come.

I purchase several watches in confidence from Ian Blowers in UK and from Ken Jacobs (WBAW) in LA.
Also bought one from Jacek in SF and also from Rallepeng in Munich (+ parts)

Another good one is ExplorerWatch in Paris (owned by Jacques Callier) : 3 watches bought, all good.
If it can help.

Thanks for the feedback Monobike, skyedog, buffy, list updated with your feedback. Have also renamed the list and taken off the numbering from the green star sellers so that readers don't get the impression that the list is in any order or preference, the sellers have been added in on a "first suggested first in the list" basis based on purchases forumers have made. Offcourse the green star sellers move atop the others in the list.
Have also renamed the list to make it extra clear that is a forumer purchase experience list and not an official recommendation list. As always refer to the footnotes and do your due diligence when buying any vintage watch, even from a seller listed as having a green star since past recommendations are not necessarily a ticket for positive experiences in the future.

I know some of us are concerned that this list might give a wrong sense of security to new buyers while buying a vintage watch and I wouldn't want that happening. I still believe though that although the list might not be 100% full proof, having such a list is better than having no list at all and leaving us newbies open to buying Rolexes in the wild on Craiglist, Ebay, dishonest recommendations by friends or groups of dealers, etc. There is only a small group of sellers who can deliver so we can only attempt to get the list right. But if most feel it doesn't serve any purpose I have no qualms in letting this thread die.
As always, if any forumers here who have made a purchase stated below and have been taken for a ride by any sellers on the list i.e been sold a fake watch, fake papers, an unoriginal watch, etc. and can back that up with concrete evidence, I am happy to take offending sellers off from this list if the forumers agree to based on the concrete evidence supplied.

Vintage purchase experience Feedback List

A green (*) against a dealers name indicates that atleast 2 forumers have purchased vintage watches from a dealer here, have received them and are happy. So if atleast 2 of you have purchased a vintage watch from any of the dealers in the list, have received it and are happy with the purchase please say so here so can update the dealers name with a green (*).Also note that a single forumer purchasing 2 or more watches from a seller will be considered as one reference and not two.

No buyers too have complained about the authenticity of his paperwork and no evidence of anything amiss when the watches were taken to a RSC, a service center, or for an expert appraisal. Please conduct your own due diligence before you make any purchases by asking questions on the forum, posting pictures, getting references, etc. Also please notify us of any concerns and if the forumers agree I can take them off this list.

VERY IMPORTANT: As always refer to the footnotes and do your due diligence when buying any vintage watch, even from sellers listed as having a green star, since past recommendations are not necessarily a ticket for positive experiences in the future, so ask questions and verify watches through the forum "before" you buy any vintage watch. This is a forumer purchase experience list aimed at helping newbies find a vintage from known sources and is not an official recommendation list or a substitute for doing proper research on watches and sellers before you buy.

Thanks for the update ChrisB, will add you to the Purchase Reference list

Vintage purchase experience Feedback List
  • Mark Lerman (mark@webstorm.com) [*] [Note: While there have been no complaints or doubts about the authenticity or quality of his watches by buyers who have bought watches from him and is known for being a red sub expert and for his popular red sub article many of us have used as a guide, some allegations have been levelled about some of his watch's paperwork(not by his buyers), specifically about guarantee papers on some watches. The allegations haven't been proven with concrete publicly available evidence but that's not to say the allegations can be discounted and is upto forumers here to make their own judgement based on the available evidence. In his favour, no buyers have complained about the authenticity of his paperwork on authentication and no evidence of anything amiss when the watches were taken to a RSC, other service centers, or for an expert appraisal. However in light of the allegations, do verify the paperwork when making a full set purchase, just to be sure so that all boxes tick. This note will remain in effect for a year and if nothing more negative comes up about watch papers or with new sales, will be deleted in the latest update of this list in a years time.]

**All special notes against a sellers name will remain for a year and be taken off if no further negative feedback is heard of in that period.

Purchase Reference list: Besides the green star rating, for added green star rating accuracy, refer to this "Purchase Reference list" to get a feel of the quality of watches forumers here have purchased from their respective sellers by looking up their historic threads for posted watch pictures and making inquiries on the forum.

Thanks teeva3333, adding to list. Also added footnotes for additional comments to make the list easily readable.

Hi Paul, I'd try Jedly, Eric Ku, Josh Bonifas, or Andrew Shear, for the best examples of a Paul Newman/Exotic Dial Daytona. Good Luck in Your Search!

Do any of our TRF Vintage guys reside in the Atlanta area? Or, if not, does anyone know a very good restorer in that vicinity.

you could try http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...highlight=list but do get second opinions from the forumers.

Over here in the UK, one of the most respected vintage Rolex collectors/dealers has launched a new website. I've purchased from him a number of times and the pieces were exceptional. He is certainly worth adding to your list in my opinion!

Jason Graham aka 964RS on many of the forums - his website is www.SweepingHand.co.uk

You can also keep upto date with his available watches or just drool over the pictures on his facebook page at:
