Obviously, they reverted back to a prior style. The decision to do that speaks for itself. But I wouldn’t call it a mistake as much as an experiment.

Then that would mean the maxi case of the gmt master 2 is also a mistake?
Because they still use virtually the same dimensions for those as the now discontinued sub Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So I’m not a Rolex enthusiast for not wanting to watch? It is my choice, I have read on TRF people’s opinions on many varied subjects and the Maxi case one has been done time and time again, I now find it tedious that the same subject is regurgitated, for me the hype and frenzy associated with slight changes are inconsequential.

Supercases are perfectly fine on the wrist. The problem today is macro photo obsession which exaggerates non issues.
I’ve even heard someone complain about how the rehaut text bothers them!!!! Something that at arms length (how we really see our watches) is nearly invisible to but the eagle eyed. I think it was a great move that served its purpose and kept the Sub relevant during the big watch craze instead of making it a 42 or 45 even, like everyone was doing, but now with the easy access to cameras and social media which show the watch in large macro six inches from your face format, it has too many critics. Then there’s the fact that Rolex fans are hyper critical about the most minutiae of details, font size, shiny vs frosted clasps, cyclops magnification levels, dial shades, crown alignments when tight, etc.. Things no other brand is criticized for. It’s no wonder they don’t change much. Was it a mistake no. Has the watch collecting environment become more critical, definitely. Does the new one look “better”, I would say so. Would I be happy with either, yes. And the question of the year, does the supercase matter on the LVC, what supercase, exactly. |

Having owned a super case 144060 and now a new 126610 Sub, I 100% think the new case looks better. It tapers down to the bracelet nicely and doesn’t look like a square block sitting on your wrist.
Rolex did a wonderful job adjusting the proportions on the new Sub. They made it look better while looking just as substantial. |

It seems like the 116610 owners are bashing the 126610.
And 126610 owners are bashing the 116610. I guess this is only human nature ... to justify what they own is better. I don't own either, so I am pretty neutral. I would be happy with either one. All generation of Subs are nice, each have their own uniqueness. We all can't be Doctors, and we all can't be dish washers. Enjoy what you have. |

This all reminds me of the slap fights when the blue/black bezeled GMT changed bracelet styles. It was either a vastly superior and completely different watch requiring you to immediately "upgrade", irreversibly turned into a ladies watch, or barely changed. Either way it was hard to get so it must be worth at least $5k extra. Sent from my SM-T830 using Tapatalk |

I do like the new case but don't like the bracelet increase. I would have kept it 40mm, slimmed down the case and kept the 20mm bracelet. That would have been the perfect design to me.

It's always just an opinion, no right and wrong.
For me the ideal size is closer to a 42x11, so when Rolex inched closer towards that and improved the bracelet and crownguard, improved the dial and hands etc. It was like 7x-8x minor improvements for me. I had no interest in the maxicase subs but I'd like a no date sub now. Watches are all about details for me. I don't really care about what's hot or hyped or even the name on the dial so much. Some people see a watch as, "Brand name, model name, hype status" and I look at build quality, tech specs, movement, case dimensions, bracelet etc. |

Does the new Sub not have a super case? Case footprint looks to be largely the same albeit with a wider bracelet to make the lugs look thinner. To my eye, Rolex has not deviated too much, and the new Sub appears much more similar to the previous 6 digit references than the old 5 digit Subs. If the super case was a mistake, not sure why Rolex would continue using them.

I would wear either one. Tried on the 12 and it looked and felt great. I love my 114060 - it'll be with me for a long, long time. I might add a TT Sub at some point, probably a 5 digit.
