I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around the concept it doesn't matter anymore life is short. I'm the kind of person that likes to try to keep everything that I own in like new condition. Yes life is short but it does matter on the condition that I keep my goods in at least to me it does. When I was playing football I wore a mouthguard so I could keep my teeth, when I was parachuting I always pulled my rip cord at around 2000 ft so I could keep my life., while I was scuba diving I always surface before I ran out of beer in my tank so I could enjoy my next scuba dive, but also that's the reason I pulled the report so I can enjoy my next parachute jump. So yes life is short but that doesn't mean throw caution to the wind and tear things up and rip things apart and bang things against whatever just because life is short. For me a part of the challenge of life even though it is so short is to keep things in like new condition so that every time I put them on I can enjoy them all the more. So for me it does matter and I take great pleasure out of picking something up that I've had for 5 years knowing that it looks as good today as it did today I bought it and I've been wearing it when appropriate. I'm not going to wear my full gold Day date out mowing the grass and working around the yard but I may wear my Submariner black dial black ceramic bezel on a rubber bead bracelet but most likely what I will do is pick up one of my nice quartz watches citizen, Casio Etc.

I think the whole concept of "Life" is hesitating to live in the moment, that its better to treat life as a present, as current, to live fully each waking moment....and sure, I wont wear my PM YG when Im mowing the lawn or fixing the roof,....but then again,... why not? If you wanted to, why can't you?
or why shouldnt you? if it feels like the vibe, why not?

Like one of our esteemed colleagues here mentioned, even tomorrow is not promised...that can never be so true...:)
whaetver you feel like doing, provided it doesnt hurt anyone, i say, go for it..
immerse yourself

Yes but apparently adding damage to your expensive watch or watches adds “character” unfortunately if and when you decide to sell your watch that “character” will equate to your watch or watches being worth less money but many on here seem to revel in litterally and metaphorically knocking value off their watches, I’m of your view that I would rather keep my watch in the best condition possible just in case you need to sell in the future for whatever reason.

:)
No ONE said anything about adding damage to their watches. All we were saying is, we bought our watches to wear then to the full and enjoy them to the hilt....and if it gets damaged, then we fix it. Its just like anything else in life...you enjoy the things you have.
the point is, will you enjoy your watches if you are "careful" or "too careful"?
I believe the allure and mystique of Rolex is, we wear them in our daily lives, however we want , and they keep "ticking" and giving us superb performance...

Now obviously, each to his own. If you decide you want to wear it meticulously, or certain degree of care, and that gives you satisfaction, then sure so be it.

But if you decide, im going to take myYG PM Sub on a diving trip in Asia and Maldoves for 6 months, bring no other watches, and just use that, then certianly, yes, I would go for that..that would be marvelous..:) and it gets dings and bumps, then so be it. You would have had the time of your life, and a YG PM to share memories ( hmmmmmm, now a dive trip sounds deliciosu right about now..lol)

thanks

Dings, bumps and scratches add “character” though apparently, that definitely has been stated on this forum hundreds if not thousands of times

And yes I actually agree .::it does add character .: like for me , it adds soul and a certain charm ..:
Why do you think the Paul Newman Daytona sold for millions .. or why does old versions of speed masters command so much money like vintage ones?

I agree when it comes to rare and vintage watches such as the ones you cite but I see people claim soul, charm and character is added to any Rolex when you acquire scratches and dents and dings

You got a point, you own it you can do whatever you want to with it. If you enjoy wearing a precious metal Rolex working on your car again it's yours enjoy, I understand. I even heard of one NFL football player that wore his Rolex during a game I don't know that it was precious metal but to wear a watch during a game is a bit odd I would say but to wear a Rolex during a game just makes me wonder. but it's his watch and if the rules allow and he wants to go for it.

That player would likely add plenty of “character” to that watch doing that, although ironically it would probably add value to that particular watch so not the best example of character building/depreciating an asset that one
