Mr. Stern once spoke of being tempted to do a Reverso-type watch.
May be that was what he had in mind with this new line.
It's natural to take a rectangular form if it were to have hinges of some sort.

It would be difficult to beat the Reverso at its own game! Great watches!

As for the idea Patek are so unimaginative they would copy the Nautilus face design, dream on!

@Gamut, I think their aim is to follow the sporty route, like how lifestyle has evolved nowadays but Patek had a Reverso model in their catalogue in the 1930's (I read 8 pieces were produced).

For a brand that makes different cases for so many models and doesn't seem to recycle things, would be a pretty disappointing if reusing the nautilus style. Especially considering Thierry stating they don't want to be a one watch brand....

For a brand that doesn't want to just be known for the nautilus, it's just a squared off nautilus

My wife just asked if this is a new Santos trying to rip off the nautilus

+1

Then again a bunch of people over on watchprosite picked up the magazine and confirmed the existence of the ad.

If real then a new movement I guess. Think the 240 could handle the big date?

Also seems strange then that the ‘leaked’ green dial has the date at 3

I am not entirely negative, but I feel Casio G-Shock vibes from the case, more than Nautilus or Santos.

This is worse than disappointing, this is actually concerning. I still feel it looks fake (not discrediting people who saw the magazine), it almost feels like a joke. Something you would buy at a Thai airport shop. The asymmetry of the watch is off-putting, and my favourite is the 5712.... The end link, the nautilus wings and the dial are all copies of a nautilus. Even the bezel is very derivative. The comparison to the AP Code sounded cheeky at first but it is now overly flattering. The Code for all its shortcomings has a unique design. This is worse for me. AND if this is 30k+ in steel on a strap as an entry level...then it's really bad.

Totally agree. Let’s totally ignore this watch, and see it disappear ASAP

It just looks like an uglier Nautilus - though that could have been said of the Aquanaut at launch, and that line has definitely stepped out from its older sibling’s shadow with time.

I disagree here, the Aquanaut has a much stronger identity. Way more unique with it’s grenade dial and tire structured rubber band.

This reminds me more of the Nautellipse, also an uglier Nautilus. But not as ugly as this square one.

Even AP did better with the Code. Also not a winner, but at least a stronger identity and more unique design.

Initial reaction: dont hate it? Dont compare this to the monstrosity that is the Code. Its got Patek’s sports watch DNA on a strap. Lets see how it looks in flesh

That 8 in the date window looks wonky.
