The black D500 is amazing.

I also think it dresses up nicer than the white.

Now I may get some flack for this; but the 116500 just seems a little sterile for me. The steel bezel gives off a bit of class and refinement that I personally just don't feel with the '500. Yes, it's more legible. Yes it's what some enthusiasts have been pining over since the PN's... I just don't get any oomph from it.

Alas, I am but one man with one perspective. Try them on and happy hunting

I've been lucky to own both (currently have the 500) and I agree with you actually. I still prefer the 500 to 520 (had both black dials) because of the killer ceramic bezel, but it is true that I think the 520 had more character and looks a bit sleeker with the all steel look. The 500 definitely feels more sterile as it doesn't show age or wear at all because of the bezel.

Also looking at the new Daytona Ceramic, I wonder if it is not too sporty with the new black bezel, less appropriate for every occasion.

I am looking to buy one or the other but it is difficult to decide

What you guys think ?

Thanks
I would go either Daytona Zenith or Daytona C

Own both the 116520s and the white 116500....I don't think I can say with fairness that the 116500 is better than the 116520 after the initial honeymoon phase. They have their own charm and it's a very very different look with the metal vs ceramic insert. I'd hate to have to choose in this case.

Very hard to choose, I have a well worn white 116520 that adore. I do like the black 116500 a tad better than the black 116520. And I own all three. I'm hoping I dislike the white 116500 when my AD gives me the call so I can allocate the funds to another watch (like a 5167).

Before the introduction of the 116500, a common debate was which 116520 to get, black or white. The consensus was "get both".

Now that the 116500 is out, I'd say the best answer would be, "get all 4".

It's funny. I have had a white dial 116520 since 2011 that I was going to sell after I bought the white dial ceramic bezel 116500.

But, after a while I began to recognize features of the 116520 that I appreciate. For example, twisting the watch creates a slight glare that pops out the hands on the dial so they are starkly outlined.

I have not worn the ceramic dial enough to figure out its special features other than the sporty effect of black on white.

I also like the black dial ceramic 116500 and might buy one of those, too.

I was curious but once I saw the C in the flesh, I decided there and then that I wasn't ever going to be in the market for one. I don't dislike it, I just prefer my 116520, that's all.

This dial (black white arab) was avaliable for the WG 1116509 model exclusively until Rolex discontinued it ,fits perfectly on the 116520 since both the SS and the WG has the same movement ,all original Rolex Tom Kristensen the famous race car driver sporting in the same combo.

Do you think rolex will release the ceramic daytona with the metal (gold, platinium, WG) bracelet rather than the osterflex?

The history of Daytona is linked to car racing and for this reason it would make more sense in my opinion to wear it with either leather or metal. Rubber bands go better with divers.

Ceramic Daytona would be my choice. Both from a practical standpoint and from a visceral. That being said, I do think the previous generation white dial was dressier than the current ceramic white dial. The black dial ceramic is just as dressy as the older version in my opinion. Love it!
