I got it last November. It's a 'Z' series.

Air King
Yazo: That is is the first Air King w/the bezeled crown that I have seen w/a black dial. It is a sharp looking watch.

Is it true that only a handful of Swiss watches, Rolex included, are 100% made and assembled in Switzerland? I read somewhere that others, Omega included has some parts made somewhere else, and i don't mean the carton/packaging. For a long time, it was a choice between Rolex AK and Omega Seamaster GMT (Bond or non-Bond) as they have nearly the same price. But that article about Rolex being 100% Swiss made changed everything.

Thanks for the great review, I've been always debating between Explorer I or Air-king; now I'm more confused, will have to find a good "Explorer I" review.

Is this a 5501 model (1966) I inherited a watch identical to this with gold fluted bezel and winder. I have sent it off to Rolex Canada for a service quote and strap estimate. is this the original strap? I am seeking a Rolex replacement similar two tone. I hope mine looks that good when I get it back. |

Is that a 5501 (1966) model I just posted to ac101 about his picture and it looks like the same watch I have sent off to Rolex Canada for service and strap replacement. I just keep getting more excited as it was an inherited with a flex bracelet and absolutly no paper work. Serviceing is like adopting a child or restoring and old car

Novarob: I actually do not know the exact model. I will have to look at the paperwork and email trail. I will post as soon as I find out. I know I had a conversation w/Scott at EMW and thought he said it was from the early 70s. But I am over 50, and my memory is not what it used to be.

I recently purchased a Sintra. Probably one of the most comfortable watches I've ever owned.
I'm also considering a Rolex to add an automatic to my collection. I love the engine turned bezels on the AK and Date models. Unfortunate that they don't include them as an option on the DJ models, at least anymore. |

I owned a 14000M some time back, it was my first automatic Rolex. Loved that watch.
I got tired of my girlfriend drooling over my watches so I just picked her up a 14000M. Same black dial. I can now enjoy it on her. Should look better on her as her arms aren't hairy. On the used market the Airking is the best value out there. The Airking wears big as it is all dial. Great sized watch.

That is stunning. I agree about the engine turned bezel, really sets of the watch. Beautiful...

Here's a few pics of mine :
It had about 3 years worth of constant use before I started buying other watches. I think it's a great watch - very low key, but every time I look at it I see that crown and smile. Darwen. |

Air-king respect, and you can buy a new dials too (as with any Rolex...). Here is my 'after picture, bought the watch in Switzerland where I live in 2008, changed the dial recently. I love the blue glowing markers !
Price to switch dials was 500 Swiss Francs (check out my posting on the matter) . cheers |

Hello Air-King fans... I'm new to the Rolex club... I posted my concerns about the one I have in the Welcome Thread, I wonder if you all might take the time to answer some of the questions I have in that thread?? http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=145601
