Amazing news! I kinda pestered my SA at my AD (after hearing about the August shipments above) and she said that there is a good chance my allocation might arrive in August too. Its my only allocation for the year so I am hoping that is true!

I've booked Benares next month, always wanted to go, and Tamarind was recommended by a member here who knew his stuff, but usually I just go to my local like everyone else on a Friday night... I mean it wouldn't be a Friday night if we didn't go for an English and order the blandest thing on the menu.

Jamavar looks nice, very swanky too, give us a report if you go.

Benares honestly isnt that great. Its tastes the least Indian of any Indian restaurant I have been too. I have been twice and wont ever go back. the portions are terrible too. Chutney Mary (the newish one in Piccadilly) is better than Benares but also a touch bland.

My favourite indian restaurants of similar standing are:

Gymkhana (the chef Karam Sethi is awesome - the game tasting menu in particular is superb)
Tamarind is old but still lovely food wise - however its in the basement so may lack some atmosphere).
Kahani is new and nice
Trishna (small but also a Karam Sethi restaurant).
Kutir (small townhouse)
Amaya (another old one)
Indian Accent in Mayfair (prefer this to Jamavar below)

Others also decent:
Jamavar (but I prefer its cheaper sister restaurant called Bombay Bustle on Maddox street).
Quilon
Farzi Cafe in piccadilly

I hope that helps.

Giving kudos here for the goodness gracious me quote. Having just returned to the UK from living in the US for a few years, and knowing the forum is generally US focussed, many won't know what you are talking about :)

I know I’m a lurker (5066a owner) - but I’d recommend New Tayyabs in Aldgate East. Not posh, but a legendary Pakistani. Make a reservation (though this may not help), take a bottle of wine (they don’t serve alcohol but will let you consume your own) and gorge on the city’s best tandoori lamb chops and Seikh Kebabs. It’s a uniquely London experience.

Otherwise, I would second Trisha for more upscale but relaxed Indian fare.

Also just wanted to say it’s nice to see that most people on this board aren’t drinking the usual “it’s not a bubble” kool-aid.

Yes agreed Tayyabs is good food but as you say not in the same price bracket. Trishna is lovely and I used to go there when it first opened but they have redecorated since.

I have tried most of the ones I have listed at least twice each and some on multiple occasions. On Benares I think Atul Kochar is overrated. Most of my Indian friends feel the same way.

Ok back to watches lol.

Ooh yes, watches. I like them too. But don’t make me choose between then and a Karahi curry. Lol.

In all seriousness; I’d love the correction to arrive and the bubble to burst. I wanted to treat myself to a 5711 for my 40th but refused to pay the grey gouge, so ended up empty-handed. It feels as if certain watches are simply speculative asset-classes in their own right, buoyed by cheap money, the search for yield, and their relatively accessible sticker. Pity the poor cynical fools who don’t buy the hype, just like them as pretty, intricate objects, and want the simple pleasure of wearing them on their wrists.

*sigh*

Cheers but you start talking about Indian food and suddenly the thread is awash with Brits who have opinions on our national cuisine.

Believe it or not the rich folks now want PM. SS is fading fast. Who would have guessed. Look at the Rolex page, all PM pieces.

I don't disagree.

There's a reason why I have two Platonas and a Platinum DD40.

I do wish Patek made more full bracelet sports models in PM. I find it frustrating that the only one in production is the 5740/1G.

Rolex is clearly winning in this regard for me.

Plus 5711/1R and 5980/1R which both seem to be more popular than the 5740/1G...

What I am missing is a blue 5711/1J and I hope Thierry Stern will listen this time...

Oh, yes, my apologies, I meant white metal PM bracelets, so Platinum or WG specifically.

I should've been clearer.

I would love love love a 5990/1P in 2020. :D That would be an epic Basel.

grey market prices in China had an downward adjustment in recent weeks, especially Rolex hot SS pieces i.e. Pepsi losing 2-3k in selling price. Reasons being the trade war dragging on, slow down in China economy, HK unrest etc.

I heard the same today from a grey seller in HK. Market has slowed down in the past two months with prices for PP, AP, and Rolex softening. They were also less interested in taking on new inventory

Chrono24 still has the Aquanaut cranking along. The "green" is the increase since I bought these-- it keeps track of that. Another difference here, the 5168 is worn, and the 5167 is unworn..... you enter that too. I think the 5167 is "high"- it's not clear where they get this figure, unless it puts some unknown premium on unworn.

Yeah Chrono24 is always high. There's multiple 5167s at greys for $39K.

Chrono24, like any other marketplace, only reports list prices.

Ask anyone in the car or real estate business how meaningful list prices are. :)

I respect that. :)

Though, for me, PM on PM Bracelet is the ultimate. I love the weight and feel.

Full Platinum on Platinum watches tend to clock in at roughly 1/2 lb. It's an incredible feeling on the wrist.

It's sad to see people using the language of stock brokers when talking about watches. I wish things would go back to people buying pieces because they loved them and appreciated the history and horology involved.
