I'm sad to report that the old Rolex sign that originally started this thread last year was recently removed. I asked inside the shop this weekend and they confirmed that it was gone for good. They seemed quite pleased that someone had noticed, but couldn't, or wouldn't, tell me where it had gone to. Either landfill or a storage facility, I guess.

Too bad... It would have looked good in your living room I bet! Rolf.

I think some remodelling would have been required

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing Adam! How much colonial influence exists in Hong Kong today? Is the country now actively trying to shed her links to its glorious past?

Hi Bharat,
Thanks. I could answer your question, but then I'd have to close the thread and ban myself, as political discussion isn't allowed on TRF.

I way prefer that Rolex sign to the yellow M sign in the lower r side of the pic!
Rolex has the golden crown, the other one only has golden arches!

Oh my god! I dont even recognise this place at all! Must have torn down and replaced with a hotel, right next to Windsor Building?

HK is such a fun town. I have 2 uncles there and have had the chance to visit them a few times.

Those were all pre-Rolex days though.

Actually, my first Rolex was given to me by one of my Hk uncles. It's possible he bought it from one of these stores!!

There was a good article in the NYT in October, all about the decline of neon signs in HK

Link here for anyone interested

Cool photos Adam! I took this earlier last year with my iphone in the same area. Think it's opposite facing therefore no MCD sign.
sad to hear they took it down.

Don't see much of these beautiful signs where I live here on The Mainland and just can't get away from them when I'm visiting HK every month or so. Those signs have magnetic and persuasive powers as I found out just last week.
Had to pull the trigger!!!
Great pics,Thanks for sharing.👍🏻

I love seeing pics of huge metropolitan areas I don't go to or haven't been to in ages. Internet pics are one thing but someone's on site pics always amaze me. Thanks for sharing. Feel free to post more.

Bummer. That Fung Leung Kee sign in Johnston Road was a timeless beacon for the weary watch addict.

Love the photos Adam. Great memories. In the 90's, we had an office at the Shun Tak Centre, Connaught Road Central. Thank you!
