I just love both of these watches, in my eyes, absolutely perfect, I would use these as my everyday watch and my dinner watch, both are just lovely.

I have been wearing it for a day now and absolutely love it. The weight is absolutely perfect, it feels rich and substantial but light enough to be comfortable. I love the Platona for example but that feels heavy to me (still enjoy wearing it).
The dial is gorgeous and the blue changes depending on how the light hits it. The time is extremely readable at a glance with it without glasses and I love the complications.
In the picture I posted the crown was out and nothing was set because I had literally had it in on the wrist for 30 seconds. It is all properly set now. I can’t see taking this watch off for a long time before being ready to wear one of the other watches I have.
I am trying to think of something negative to balance my positive comments. I suppose I would love to have a chronograph too. I guess the only negative is that it doesn’t have a second hand so there is no movement in the dial. Having said that when I leave the chrono hand running on my 5930G it drives me nuts because the back part of the chrono hand (on the other side of the centre) is thicker than the hour hand so at a glance the time is impossible to read.
Overall I’m delighted with the watch. As soon as I put it on my wrist, I ran back home to trade the 5712 because I knew I would never wear the 5712 again.
I love the watch and it looks far better in person imho than it does in photographs . If you have been thinking of getting one, you will like it more than you even think you would.

One thing I forgot to mention is the 5740 comes with some goodies, a beautiful carrying case and its own single watch winder both made in soft chocolate-colored leather.

That my friend is a Patek Philippe Neptune from the early 90's.
Great design & very unloved until relatively recently.

As much as I love the big Nautilus & Aquanauts.
I still love my 3738.
Beautiful dial & looks great with or without a shirt sleeve!

Great! Love mine as well and had made my other watchery much retire. ;-)

It is much bigger than I expected and has quite a hefty presence on the wrist. And it goes very well with casual clothes as well, just check the Bulang & sons review on the Ellipse.

As you can see I am quite biased. ;-) Anyway, enjoy your piece!

Thank you for sharing your insights, that was quite helpful. What I found most interesting is pricing on the 5740 for the last year has either gone sideways or slightly declined where almost every other nautilus has appreciated tremendously. Can't quite figure out why that has happened.

Less demand vs supply, both at MSRP (according to my AD) and at current market prices. On here it is easy to forget but for most of the world (including myself) money still matters. A lot more will consider spending USD 50k or 100k on a watch than 200k irrespective of the merits of the time piece. Others prefer SS (or platinum) over white gold for the Nautilus.

Thank you my friend!
I found that it’s one of those watches you have to see in person to “get it.” Photos typically don’t do it justice and leave it looking kind of monotone. But it is a real stunner!

The Neptune was produced between 1995 and approximately 2002. It’s production numbers were small, that’s the reason you see so few. It was produced as a sport-dress watch. Available in SS, two-tone and all gold. The reference number is 5080/1. Searching Chrono 24, found none listed at that time.
