it's all true - I have SS Daytona (latest update, mixed serial #)
It truly feels much smaller and lighter then my GMT-IIC, DJ II, or Sub (ceramic and older style)

I didn't measure the Daytona, I just know when I wear it, it's smaller.
But it's still cool

That is why it wears so great. The newer Subs/GMTs have oversized lugs with an angular shape while the Daytona hugs your wrist.

I am not going to complain as I think the Daytona is a perfect fit. If they ever englarged it I do not know how interested I would be.

I don't understand some of the negative comments to the OP here.

It is amazing that a slightly smaller cyclops magnification, a questionable dial detail, a bracelet deviation, etc. brings howls about legitimacy in this forum. But when the almighty Rolex appears to have possibly exaggerated a case size, that is rationalized away by some as ridiculous rantings by the OP.

Unless there is a Rolex measurement method that this forum is unaware of, it is simply unacceptable for a company, especially one as concerned about their image as Rolex is, to advertise anything other than what is absolutely factual.

I love my Daytona and don't really care much what the exact dimensions are, but someone brought up a good point - if they're happy to list the Explorer as 39mm, why wouldn't they do the same with the Daytona?

That's why I flipped 2 steel Daytonas and settled on the White Gold, wears like a 16622 with a similar case and lug profile too, just wears infinitely better on the wrist. Size does matter!

IMHO, the actual size is of Daytona is 38-39mm, because winding crown and chrono buttons shouldn't be included. If you pick a Sub for instance you can see the difference of the size right away. And I'm not talking about those Sub's fat lugs. There IS a REAL difference in size between them.

I have try to discover where Rolex actually measure the case diameter. Apparently this Cia does not communicate via email whatsoever.
A lot of people say that the correct measurement is from 8h to 2h. That's how Patek Philippe does for instance.

If you measure Daytonas's bezel you get 38.55 mm. Measuring the case (which is a little bit bulkier) you may get 39 mm. But I just can't see 40mm.

The same thing with SDDS. Rolex claims 44mm but it's actually 43mm.
I don't know the reason for that. Maybe the rationale is to follow the recent "case enlargement" tendency but not really doing it.

It's called "rounding-up".

Mercedes is renowned for it, so an AMG 6.3 litre engine is actually 6,205cc's.

Therefore a 39.1mm case is rounded up to 40mm, and we can get rid of those pesky and messy decimal points

Actually all rose and white gold Daytona have wider lugs, along with all the leather strap and platinum models.

Everyone does this. Until last year Patek had rounded numbers listed for their watches, now they put the exact measurements. The aquanaut used to say 40mm. I noticed it seemed bigger than 40 on my wrist, but played it off as a trick of the dial and its flatness. Then last year they updated the catalog: 40.8.

Good thread. Rollie have been in denial for years that platinum isn't worth less than gold when in fact gold has been trading 30%+ more than platinum on the international metals market for years.
