Fountain pens have become the most addicting hobby I've ever had. Go with a fountain pen. You'll love it. My first nice pen was a montblanc starwalker midnight ballpoint. I write on a lot of carbon paper at work and this seemed like the best choice. This lasted about a year and then I bought my first fountain pen. My attitude was F-em if they can't read the last sheet. I want to use a fountain pen at work. About a year later to the month, I put in for 3 Visconti's, 2 Omas's, and a couple other brand fountain pens and I haven't looked back. To me I equate a fountain pen to an automatic watch. Not necessary but I wouldn't have it any other way now.

I blame scotch and sleep deprivation.

So, a quick update:
Absolutely loving my new fountain pen, that nib really is a work of art but am a little disappointed that I can't really use it to write birthday cards because they all seem to be manufactured these day's with some sort of sheen on the paper which really doesn't work well with the FP ink. TBH it only really works well with a BP |

Yes! Any treated / glossy paper will not produce desired results as the paper does not allow for absorption.
Not sure if I would draw my own, but in the future I would order only unfinished cards.

Thanks OP for starting this thread It was a real treat reading about your pen journey and all the advice provided by TRF members
My wife recently bought me a Meisterstuck rollerball as a birthday present and since I've started using it, it has gotten me into this subforum. |

I actually just recently purchased the Montblanc M Ultra Black fountain pen - my first fountain pen! Loving it so far. Much more delicate to use than a rollerball or ballpoint.
It's a slippery slope, just like watches...

Unfortunately I lost my dad at the start of the year. I miss him enormously but over the course of writing and delivering his eulogy I was able to reflect on all the wonderful time we enjoyed together and how lucky I was to have that opportunity. It has renewed my determination to be there in the same way for my boys. Take care J |

I use a simple Jotter for everything but why do I suddenly want a fountain pen?
