I've been advised to post on here, my husband had his 2008 Rolex Submariner 16610LV (Kermit) stolen from our home last Friday 3rd June 2016. We live in Wiltshire, however I doubt its still in Wiltshire. It was stolen with the box and papers. I have the serial number, but I dont want to post it publically.

It is under-insured so isnt replacable without it costing us an extra £2000 on top of what we should get from the insurance (however they are trying to wriggle out of paying that as he upgraded from one Rolex to another mid policy - although the specific watch wasnt specified, all it says is Gents Rolex, but thats another story). On the basis that this was the only item taken we can only assume that it was someone we know, or linked to someone we know. We just want the watch back.

Has anyone been offered one in the past week? Also any information regarding getting the serial number to Rolex to filter out to dealers, would be appreciated also.

Kind regards

Julie
Julie, this forum is ranked very high on google, if you add to this post:

16610LV (Kermit) and the full serial number it will appear in searches, making it very very tough to sell (if not borderline impossible)

That's the advice I have for you. So sorry the watch was stolen. The important thing though is that your family and yourself are fine.

The watch has already been found and returned to the OP. The update to the story is in this thread.

We registered the theft with The Watch Register in the UK in 2020 (when we became aware of this register) and 3 weeks ago, our watch was offered to a pawn broker in the UK, and they checked the register, saw it was stolen and retained it.

The police then took the watch and did some investigations. I don't know where its been for the last few years, but it is finally coming home!!

Plenty of unanswered questions and wild goose chases over the last 18 months since I discovered the watch as being 'sold in 2017' on a website of a dealer shop not too far from where we live.

Such a rollercoaster time, and whilst I know some people wouldn't have been bothered about getting it home, we were.

If you have had a watch stolen, get it on the Watch Register in the UK. You may get a happy ending after 6 years too.

What a great bump!!!

So amazing it was found and grateful for that pawn broker who called authorities.

I do know your giddy feeling. I’ve recovered 2 from a burglary in 2017 - more recently, a Platona last year.

So very happy for you and your husband. I have a big safe now.

Your post gave me the impetus to register two JLCs which were stolen from my house back in 2018… just registered them as stolen now! Thank you!

Definitely worth registering them Alex. We are beyond pleased to have it coming home.

We are so thankful that the Pawn shop DID check the register this time, because during the police investigation (which was reopened in 2020 when I spotted the watch listed as sold on a retail watch shop website) The police traced the watch back through 5 or 6 UK watch dealers before it got to the shop, and none of them, NOT one, checked whether it was stolen, nor did they retail it. Seems pretty strange right. I wish I had all the facts!!

I’m afraid that shines a light on the shadier side of the watch industry.

Huge congrats on the return Jules.

I had no idea of this shadier side of this industry, naive I guess!!

One of the dealers it allegedly went through was apparently a very high end Knightsbridge shop, the police were surprised at that one not checking its status.

It's like they all had an idea it was 'hot' and moved it on in short order.

Congrats that is amazing news. Do yourself and the watch a favour and take it down to the Rolex Service Centre in London St James Square. Put it in for a full service and bezel replacement. They will literally take it down to the springs and clean, replace lubricate then put a new bezel on. It will come back brand new with its last 3 years of unknown action wiped. Then insure it for todays market value which is a lot more than 2016 lol

Gosh, that’s crazy! I’m so very pleased for you! Really am! Yes, very strange (but not terribly surprising) that dealers don’t regularly check the watches they’re buying through that database for further peace of mind.

Following adding my former two watches, I also did a check on my only Rolex not purchased via an AD - a Hulk I bought it from a reputable shop after the Hulk got discontinued. I wasn’t particularly worried but you can never be too careful when you are not 100% sure of the provenance. So, your post was hugely helpful! Thank you so much. And my watch is “mine”!
