Hey Tomi. That took a while for me to unravel the meaning. I have encountered a site that honors not posting. Small counter numbers confer status. That struck me as particularly hilarious, inasmuch as if everyone won, there'd be no posting at all.

an excellent point, and does the large nu,mber of new people who will need to ask the same questions suugest a slight change of format?
as we have the the general discussion, and then the reviews, etc.,etc, how about "commonly asked topics" such as timing, bracelet adjustment, etc.,etc. so new people (as well as older) can simply review what has already been discussed? trying to drill down into the huge number of threads is a bit daunting, and might this help? just my thoughts, and all thanx to the group!

so my question to my fellow members is... which thread makes you yawn? moan? or groan?? (jj that is not groan in pleasure on sight of a sheep wearing a platty! lol)

some of the threads i yawn at are...

how do i clean my watch?
oh god i have a scratch!
i can only get 5% discount!
can i get it wet?
its 0.04 secs a month too slow...
i dont wear my watch everyday, why does it stop?
if i buy said watch, will it make me rich?
is my gmtII with the 3186 movement rarer/better?

etc etc you get the picture...

yes, i do understand that i dont need to read every thread...

on a constructive note maybe there should be a sticky on most common threads, or on how to use the search facility...

ps i hope i havent offended anyone in any way, shape or form.

If this site is only for "experts" or for anyone who possess quite advanced level of knowledge only then this thread makes some sense.
Even as a surgeon, I don't know how to do every procedure in my field since there is so much sub-specialization. Even people who knows the modern Rolex may have no idea about the vintage models. Everyday is a learning day for anyone and yes it is repetitive at time. If you don't like to answer those questions then skip over and pick one that you like. No point looking down on those who asked those basic questions. Everyone came to the world naked and naive.

Well sure, create an über grouping who know almost everything who only speak with each other. That oughta make things really interesting!

It's easy to say you "experts" need to calm down and be more patient. It certainly would be bad manners to jump on a serious question asked by a newbie just because you know the answer and they don't.

But do you really need to go to a watch site to ask what wrist you wear your watch on? Or do you "shake it" ?

Additionally, an overall trend I think we can thank the internet for is a laziness to lift a finger, or click the search button, before asking for info.

Now the coin of the realm on these sites is visitors and posts and I guess we all benefit from that, but geez, how does one actually get through life if they need advice on which wrist to clamp their watch on? This ain't exactly asking about a complex surgical procedure now is it?

It's really clear where the factions stand on this issue, so I'm not trying to pick off the scab, just wanted to say the weariness (not anger) some suffer from these posts isn't from any inherent sense of superiority or general reluctance to help others, it's just a response to the silliness. Those that listed irritations here have also done extensive research and posted links etc to help others, it's not a cadre of flame throwers or mean people.

I did a quick review of some of the silliest posts and there is VERY little vitriol in the subsequent posts, just some good ribbing. I also have seen very little indignation by the OP, so maybe we're addressing a problem that doesn't even exist.

Finally, those of us that post very regularly and read nearly every post by nearly everyone, ought to be able to gab a bit on the silly ones too in a good natured way. I mean let's get serious, this is as much about having fun as it is dispassionately answering questions as to what one should do with a defective watch that changes dates at noon.

Well about this whole thread, you didn't specify whether it was the most repetitive boring thread or fun threads.

We hardly discussed the repetitive fun threads which are, what watch are you wearing for the weekend or on any given day. Plus, there are always those threads of people showing pictures of their first or new Rolex purchase and those are fun too!!

Lately, the repetitive threads seem to be:

"My AD called to tell me my DSSD, GV and Daytona are in!"

My take on the "shake" and "which wrist" threads was that they not so much seeking advice as intellectual curiosity, for better or worse, about others' watch habits. It may seem silly, but then so does a forum dedicated to watches! I come here to relax, to learn a thing or to, to get in a meaningless scrap for fun, to intermingle with interesting and funny people, to glean a little knowledge, and to wiggle Bart's bottom at the world...

Yes, I thought we had taken care of that one. The consensus was to move to a time zone 12 hours away from where you are at present. Although could that give you the wrong date?

But, my question to you is, what can smoke a Porsche:

A 1983, 5.0 Mustang GT -

Cost of a 1983 Mustang GT convertible - $16000
Set of 16 Cobra Wheels and tires -$1200
A few suspension modifications - $600
A few performance upgrades - $1500
The sight of a Porsche in my rear view mirrow after
smoking it on I-35 - Priceless

(Seriously, the "do you wear your Rolex in the shower" was a little over the top.)

Ditto to that my friend. If I see that one more time, I'm boiling my Sub and GMT in hot water and see which one turns to soup first. That would help anyone make up there mind. Anyone for some soup?
