A small detail that may be useful. The Submariner has a rotating bezel with 120 positions. I use mine for timing parking meters and phone calls and the like. The newest GMT has a rotating bezel with 24 positions to track a different time zone. So, it's not as useful as an ad hoc timer.

Go to the AD and try some on while wearing a suit. I find my Datejust fits under my sleeve easily (I bought it for the elegant dial and later I learned to enjoy the eye-catching white gold bezel and polished center links). I find my Submariner sometimes catches on my sleeve leaving the watch fully exposed. My Sub is my favorite watch and I wear it for dress-up and dress-down occasions. My Datejust is for taking my wife to dinner and special occasions.
Good luck with your hunt. Don't be surprised if you collect a few more Rolexes over the years. |

First, congrats on the promotion. Nothing but respect from me for someone in your line of duty and all other selfless men and women that protect the communities we live in.

I think you should go with a sub date. Don't as flashy as BLNR and if you're going wear it to work the brushes center links will fit more with your line of work.

Been wearing a Rolex to the Fire Department for 8 years. No one notices except other watch nerds. Then we have a nice chat.

I'd go with the Sub no date, and that just because of a personal preference. Get the one you like. I bought my first and only Rolex in February and in 9 months about 4 people noticed the watch and two of them, my wife and daughter it took about 5 months. I thought everyone would notice it. I was a bit self-conscious for a while. Now I just enjoy it. Good luck and post some pics.

As to your questions, I'd go with the BLNR or the Sub with date and I wouldn't worry about the wrong impression at work since it's your money and you can spend it the way you want to Now, having said that I'd be more concerned about damaging the watch as part of your duties. So, if you do make the purchase and decide to wear it to work just make sure you insure it - good luck on the purchase and again congrats on your promotion |

I'm sure you wouldn't say anything about a cop buying a new Ford Fusion as his off-duty vehicle. Yet, that will depreciate $6,000 in the first year. A new submariner will depreciate far less than that, and may end up being worth more than you paid for it after several years as MSRP of new models increases. Rolexes are not all that expensive when you analyze not how much it costs, rather how much it affects your net worth. |

Congrats on the promotion. Whatever watch you end up choosing, consider wearing it on a nylon or leather strap if you find yourself subconscious or nervous about people noticing it. Wearing any watch on a plain strap will help it fly under the radar, especially compared to a watch that has the polished center links on the bracelet. Happy hunting (for the watch AND for the bad guys). Stay safe and post incoming pics! |

Retired LEO here. I know many who wore Rolex watches as detectives or similar. Wear in good health and be safe.

Congrats on your promotion! BLNR would go nice if you had a blue uniform but I assume LVMPD is tan uniforms in which case I would go with something with a black bezel. If your detective position is plainclothes then go for it and get what you like.
In regards to wearing a Rolex as a cop, trust me, 99.9% of the population is not going to pay any attention to what is on your wrist. I know plenty of cops and firefighters that wear a Rolex as their daily duty watch and they've held up really well. |

Police Officer promotion Rolex
Congratulations Sir!! I definitely think you will be fine... there are a few guys where I work who wear their subs or explorers at work (and I occasionally will wear mine). I wouldn't worry about what anyone says... you deserve it, so wear it!!
I would probably consider the gmt over sub-no date because it has a date and I think the black/blue is cool, given TBL... just my .02 enjoy either way! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Congratulations on your promotion!
I have a friend that retired recently from the Albuquerque Police Department - we met as Marine Reservists with Rolex Submariners in the mid 80's. He wore his sub every day, both on duty as a Cop and Marine through nearly 30 years of service -- looks as good today as the day he put it on for the first time. Regardless of the model you choose, it will be a compliment to you and what you do!

I have a friend who is a police officer, and he loves Rolex too. The only problem is he saved up for a gold President's, and put an after-market diamond bezel on it... As long as you're not going around as an officer with a gold watch with diamonds all over it, you'll look fine! All are good choices, but I have the BLNR, and since its nickname is the "Batman" I think that's pretty fitting for law enforcement. It's your call though! Congrats on the promotion btw!

Go to the AD and try watches on, think about it for a day and try them on again...you should settle in on one pretty quick.
The BLNR is wonderful choice if you do go that way...so many good options. |
