Different strokes for different folks. For me it’s the best looking watch that Rolex makes or maybe anyone. Great movement even 18 years later. I don’t really use the chronograph or even the time function but it’s sure looks nice and great investment if you can get one at retail. For me it’s becoming a safe queen as I’m getting far more use out of my Apple Watch 4 lol.

That’s really nice. White dial ceramic is too and is a grail watch for me.

Because it's awesome! Best looking chrono out there!

1) Amazing movement;

2) Slim and sleek, very comfortable to wear;

3) It's both a sport watch and dress watch (wears with a suit, tux, or shorts);

4) All that with a bit of exclusivity.

History, sporty look, and the charm of a complicated chronograph movement does it for me!

Why do folks like Daytona?

It surely does become your daily. You can go weeks without having to rotate for another piece.

I like daytona but I can't wear a watch without a date. Well, technically i can wear but I'm very reliant on the date function during my work.

Just an ugly watch to me. I much prefer the IWC Portugieser or the Breitling Navitimer.

More complicated movement, nice tapered lugs. Can’t stand the maxi case.

Form follows function....and the Daytona is a work of art to many of us.

I like how the sub-dials are placed above the centerline as opposed to other chronographs with similar orientation (at least this is the only one I'm aware of anyway).

For me it’s the perfect size

It sits better on the wrist than almost any other watch. The feet at the case edge make it taper into the bracelet beautifully — and at least on my wrist it sits perfectly flat.

I also like the sub seconds arrangement with the chrono at the centre line

I’m a chronograph collector and to me the Daytona is pretty unique looking. Most chronographs look more like a speedmaster.

One thing I think about often:

"we buy based on emotion- we justify it with logic"
That is a really powerful statement once you really understand it.

Questioning "why" could also apply to Rolex in general. The fact that we all are spending this much time, energy, and dollars for an item that ultimately just gives us the time and maybe the date seems silly to non-watch people.

A great looking watch even if a bit hard to read, but paying current market prices for the SS/Ceramic is a good way to throw away your money. If you are ok with that, more power to you and enjoy your watch. However the price of the SS makes the TT and the PM seem like a real bargain.

I have always had my heart set on a SS black dial Daytona for years.. I could have bought one for 10k ish over 10 years ago and to this day still kick myself. Now that I have no AD contacts that watch is for at least awhile way out of reach as there is no way I would pay 23-24k for one.

I prefer the ND sub by comparison
I dont need a stop watch and would rather have a rugged and more water capable choice

A date function is very appealing to me so perhaps that’s one significant reason the Daytona doesn’t appeal to me.

The Daytona is more water resistant and rugged that most of us will ever need. Love the Sub as well.

Exclusivity. I think dial is noisy and useless with the exception of a few users. Then again if I saw one in the case I would be hard press to not buy it.

That is just stunning.
Just look at the blue dial with red rings in the subdials.
Just perfect.
