At this point in the conversation we should be asking if he got the job or not.

Personally I wouldn't. I'd wear something more "neutral" such as a Tissot, Seiko or Tag.

It's just a watch. People will pay more attention to your shoes. Make sure they're polished.

All depends on the position and company. In general I would recommend NO.

This is such a simple answer.
Can wearing the watch in any way help you to secure the job? NO. So don't wear it. |

many people have noted that it is unlikely that the interviewer will notice what kind of watch you have on.
While this is probably true, experienced interviewers are trained to notice the elements of your presentation. An applicant should try to present themselves as a match to the environment in which they will be working. An outstanding applicant stands out from the others, but at the same time is a fit for the culture. I conducted hundreds of interviews in my career, almost all for entry level positions for college grads. Part of what I had to assess was if the applicant would be satisfied with what we offered, which was more of an opportunity to advance/career development than a high starting salary. I would wonder if a person wearing a watch that he wouldn't be able to afford on his own for a few years would be happy or able to maintain motivation with what I could offer. So I would say yeah, most likely it won't be noticed. But if it is noticed, what are the chance that it helps vs the chance that it hurts you? More likely that it hurts you IMHO. |

While this thread is two years old, I will write my response to anyone else who has a similar question. If you are the OP's age, do NOT wear the watch.
Hell, I was the OP's age and had the same dilemma with a TT Bluesy Submariner. It just puts off a bad impression and regardless of what you think, the watch will not make an impression - it will only make you feel more confident. And, in regards to that, there are other more discrete substitutes that can boost your confidence. You want to show that you are a passionate, hungry, and motivated employee at that age. You do not want to come across as not needing the money, as your youth has one big advantage - energy. Companies hire the young because they want someone who is hungry and driven whilst working for less than the seniors. If you give an impression of anything other than that, you are starting the race with your laces untied. |

Rent a YG or RG whatever, and go for it. They need to know what you ex-etc from them. Honesty wins...

One time my friend came to me with a proposal to “rent my watch” for his interview. I was tempted to let him do it just to see how embarrassing it would be when they figured out that he went to work and didn’t have it anymore...

For the young'uns who happen to stumble on this thread:
Interviewers DO notice, especially if it is a brand as popular as Rolex. Remember, even people who know nothing about watches know Rolex. You want to interviewer to remember YOU, not your watch. Skip the bling. |
