Since you’ve owned this reference longer than most, I assume you’ve tried the following:

Slide the watch off your hand by turning your wrist over (palm up).
Squeeze your thumb to your pinky finger first bone (essentially make your hand as small as possible)
Undo the clasp.
Turn the watch head over on your wrist (which is now facing up).
Slide the watch off your hand with the watch head positioned toward your pinky finger.

I know this might not be the clearest of instructions, but I struggled at first removing mine as well, especially after a hot day of wear. This works like a charge for me

This might benefit others with larger hands

Yes, I caught on to that technique early on ... out of necessity but I really like how you've described the process - T4S it here for the community

P.S. Same issue with my vintage Speedymoon - it appears that (most) vintage (-style) Omega bracelets as well as other manufactures will indeed pose the same difficulties. This may be the reason why many Astronauts went with the JB Champion "mesh" bracelets while others (photographed celebrities) wore theirs way too loose...

Speaking of bracelets, I plan to post this shot on IG / FB one of these coming SpeedyTuesdays but since we're on the topic...

L-R: Caliber 321 OEM (STZ013537/*), SpeedyTuesday + "service" 1171/633, SpeedyMoon OEM (1447/805), 3572.50 OEM (1998/840)

*For the super-geek-owners this bracelet comes with varying end-links (STZ012777 @12 o'clock / STZ012774 @6 o'clock) ... and NO, I have no idea why

More great information from one of the most knowledgeable owners

I'm afraid my abilities begin and end with jamming my hand through the factory bracelet

There have been a few reports regarding the mesh bracelets - in addition to their ease of fit, they could be adjusted easily to fit over the space suit (pre-NASA velcro strap), and they were lower quality than OEM meaning the astronaut could tear it off easily if needed (instead of losing a hand).

This article is a pretty good review:

PS cool photo!

Many thanks for the info & link to an excellent article on the subject! I may give one a try with my 3572.50 as I'm not that passionate about the 1998/840 (although it works perfectly). I am however, really passionate about the other bracelets and will (continue to) deal with their functional limitations

Gus @subtona has had some first hand experience with the mesh bracelet fitted to his 321.

He is definitely worth reaching out to, to get his thoughts.

So, now that more people have had 321's for a while now, what is the general opinion of them?

I really like mine and I would definitely replace it if something happened to it. I wear it on the Omega black leather strap with pin buckle which I got with it and I don't have any negative thoughts about it at all.

What do others think having had their's for a while?

Although it's not my latest Speedmaster, it's still my favorite, perfect in every way!

Having said that, I'd feel wrong not owning at least one "Professional" model; after all, the asymmetrical case (c/o CGs) & lyre lugs are iconic and set the SMP apart from other chronographs of the 60s

But let's just say I hope I don't ever have to go down to less than two Speedmasters because in that case, the 321 would certainly be the "last man standing"

It’s my first and only Speedmaster. I tried others (1861, 3861) and for some reason never really connected with those.

The 321 is the perfect chronograph IMHO. A rich history, and brought back to life in this vintage/modern iteration. Like wearing art on the wrist as they say and worth every penny

Could someone explain why this is the speed master to own?
I’ve tried on a couple speedmasters over the years and they felt good, but I didn’t jump on them.
I now own a Rolex DSSD, an AP ROC and an AP ROO - I have an old PO as well but that’s not comparable and doesn’t get worn much. I realize a speedmaster should probably join the collection at some point and am hoping some aficionados could help me under they a 321 is worth the $$.
Thank you,
~Pat
