I have recently been through this process, although have categorised slightly differently...and I needed four...

My collection as follows:

1) Collar Smart = Rolex Sub 116613 LB

2) Collar Casual = Bremont MB2

3) Non-Collar = Rolex Sea Dweller 16600

4) Reckless Abandon = G-Shock Rangeman

This works perfectly for me.

I do then have half a dozen 'cheaper' watches including Tag, Baume & Mercier, and Christopher Ward which are for heavy nights on the town!

The only change I would make in the future is to swap the LB for a 116619

My perfect 3 watch collection

1. Rolex diver (DSSD for me!, but a sea dweller or sub for many would suffice)

2. AP Royal Oak Chronograph - fulfills the chrono/royal oak/dressy selection

3. Dress watch: a nice PP calatrava or Rolex datejust or Daydate

4. G-Shock (for crossfit)

I currently have 3 out of 4, the PP is next on my wish list.

GMT, Sub, and Explorer without the 24 hour hand on and off leather. Those would be my three. Next on my list is a Sub. Nice looking watches all of you have.

Very inspired choices. If I had to cut it down to 3 from what I have now:

Rolex Explorer 1
Omega SMP 2254.50
Zenith El Primero HW

I wear them all with jeans and with suits so don't really break it down in the same way.

If I was starting fresh then I would likely go all vintage for my 3:

Rolex DD
Rolex SD
Rolex GMT

I like collections that have a focus. I don't think it is Explorers somehow.

I'd have to agree with Joe and go with land, sea and air. I definitely have preferences; stainless steel, black dial, no date and leather.
