Wait a minute, are you sure you are 16?
You are mature beyond your age.

Congratulations on the Sub and on getting a perfect score on your SAT, a great achievement regardless how many tutors or prep courses you take. I actually was gifted my 5513 for graduating from business school so I understand a parent wanting to reward a child for a notable achievement. In this case, OP is lucky enough to have parents that can afford to buy him a Rolex as a gift for which I'm sure he's very appreciative, as am I. I'm happy to say that I've just purchased my second Rolex, a 1675, with my own hard earned money (a watch I'm absolutely in love with btw, lol). Let the kid enjoy his watch. One thing I will tell OP, enjoy the watch, wear it in good health, but never take it for granted.

Cheers my friend!

Yes, very true. Everyone may have their opinion, but how a person treats other people is one of the true tests of the quality of that person, and you, sir, have shown yourself to be of high quality in this thread. I believe we would get along. Congrats on the watch!

Enjoy the watch. Folks of every age deserve reward for their accomplishments. If your reward is a Rolex, than so be it.

Be proud of the watch and the fact that it will be just as accurate and wonderful when you are 26......36......46......and so on.

First of all congratulations on the new watch and SAT score. Looking to get my first here soon.

Second not sure why everyone is getting riled up by this? It's all relative if his parents can afford a 918 Spyder an 8k watch makes sense. It's not like he was given a Smurf or an ROO RG and even if he was who are we to judge?

As Kayne West said welcome to the good life

Very well said.

And on the points upon which we disagree, I'm sure we can diplomatically agree to disagree.

Maybe that's why this is a watch site and not a parenting philosophy forum. We're all drawn together by horology and along those lines there is little dispute.

To much more success for both of us in the future.

Didn't have time to read whole thread, but congrats to OP -- he seems like a good guy

I think that when people decide what is acceptable, their frame of reference is usually their own family, friends, and neighbors. But they could go to many major cities (NYC, LA, London, etc.) and see 20 year old kids living like kings (most of whom can't demonstrate a lick of self-awareness, let alone achieve a perfect SAT score...)

His comment (which was in poor taste) was made to suggest that relatively few people in Tampa could afford to buy their teenager a Rolex

I actually appreciate this thread because it gets down to the philosophical differences of what makes a Rolex special to different people. And in that regard, I think Dusko.Popov has a point. I don't think he was trying to put down the kid at all, just trying to teach him a lesson borne out of tough love. Yeah, all the "Congratulations" are nice, but there's nothing to learn from it.

Do I think the kid should be shamed for his age or his wealthy parents? Of course not. And sure, some people might view Rolexes as merely watches. But others view it as something more, and I don't necessarily think that means those people have their priorities messed up.

If I'm being honest, I don't think any 16 year-old can truly appreciate a Rolex. And I don't mean that in a rude way. I think 16 year-olds can definitely like Rolex watches. But a 16 year-old won't have the same wisdom that comes with age. A 16 year-old barely knows the real value of money, so how can one truly appreciate what it means to own one? Some people on here save for years to own a Rolex (while dealing with rent, mortgages, car payments, etc.) With that being said, I believe this kid can grow to truly appreciate his watch. Not soon, but eventually.

Anyways, enjoy your watch. And do your best to relate to your peers. A watch like yours is a beautiful thing, but it can create separation. I wouldn't be quick to label anyone a "hater" for making a snap judgment based on what you wear on your wrist.

Lol come on man. Berns is archaic. I don't need elongated presentation to justify a $500 dinner.

Charlie's yeah, way better plus those infused vodka drinks!

Hey man if you got it you got it. It appears your dad has a Porsche 918 so he obviously can afford to get his hard working son a bad ass watch. You keep doing you kid the haters will always hate. You work hard and anything is possible! Big congrats to you

His comment was a classic case of someone making himself feel/appear bigger and more important by putting someone else down. I wasn't going to dignify it with a response - he clearly knows nothing about me OR Tampa (our steakhouses and strip clubs don't count) - but he does reveal more about his character with each subsequent post. Quite revealing, actually.

Not to mention eating dinner at Berns fearing someone will turn on the lights.

Charley's is my favorite steak house but it is pretty noisy. If you go, be ready for a feast. I only like Berns for the upstairs dessert room, but I heard that they get all the desserts from the shop across the street, then triple the cost.

Actually it wasn't. It was specific to you and your judgemental comments.

I don't believe you read this full post I believe you only read what you want to read.

The point is you have no business commenting or judging me.

You can't seem to figure it out and so therefore just keep to your own business.

I see for some reason you have been after a few of my post and you seem to have some type of Vendetta for me. It's kind of weird you should probably just go away.

By the way Tampa has a ton of waterfront property and there are some very very nice homes there and a lot of wealth as well.

Anything else, troll?

Buh bye.
