It emphasizes the tolerances where the bracelet meets the case, and I don't think any other brand could successfully imitate the look TBH.

Maybe the optical illusion you’re talking about is this: “Rolex also revised the numbers on the bezel of the Submariner by slightly tilting the numbers with precision, creating an illusion of it curving with the bezel itself. If you look closely at the 50 in the upper left, you’ll notice the top of the 5 and the 0 are slightly further apart than at their bottom.” 126610

“The Supercase was a mistake!”
I think after owning both during an overlapping time, I can whole heartedly say that Rolex completely knows what they’re doing in the market, spent a lot of R&D to refine this update to be as streamlined as can be with smallest amount of change while holding pretty much everything else true while giving them an update they can roll out to other models.
I do think the launch and release of the watch was jumbled and probably a one off with the supply up front and so soon since announcement. The fact that there is a thread going on this long in circles just reinforces that they absolutely know their customer and market. Lastly, IMO, the Sub Date 126610ln looks better than the new ND Sub. I think the new space on the dial helps balance the slight clutter of 4lines and date however I think the ND Sub looks better on a fat boy 114060. Bravo. Keep it coming. 126610

Imagine being so bitter that you have to condemn everyone that has bought a sub in the last ten years, and call it a mistake, oh and falling back on it’s not me it’s what some YT video said.
You’d think that if you like the new one you’d start a thread saying how much you like the new, but on the internet these days it’s about hate and trolling. But of course the poll didn’t go the way they had hoped |

I have two beautiful “mistakes” and have no intention of getting the new 41mm due to the similarity with the outgoing subs.

Crown and Caliber is not the authority. They put out good content, but the difference between the 5 digit references and the newest 6 digit references is far greater than the difference between the older and newer 6 digit references. To therefore say the "supercase" was a mistake, you are essentially also saying the newest references are probably also a mistake because they more closely resemble the 116610, etc than the 16610. We are talking a millimeter difference here and there.

Rolex have been making a case with thinner lugs and more svelte lines since 1992, they called it a Yachtmaster, but it wasn't popular.
It hasn't been hugely popular throughout almost three decades so it tells you something about that shape. Some people don't know what they like until Instagram tells them. |

Jeez are people still talking about this? The super case design love it or hate it has been around for 13 years now and in that time, they sold millions of watches and remained as hard to get as ever. Not bad for a mistake.

There was always a large contingent of owners who disliked the super case, and publicly said so. I bought one but couldn’t stand it, just ugly. Square, ‘blocky’ and lacking any elegance,
In the long run, it will be seen as the worst design in the entire run of submariners. Rolex won’t make that mistake again. Of course, there will always be fans, and they’re welcome to it. There’s more than enough around . |
