Cyclop

Newbie here, just like to ask is there any brand of watches that have the cyclop beside Rolex?
Is the cyclop Rolex's trade mark?

The Rolex cyclops isnt a trademark as far as I know. Many replacement are available with 'cyclops' and anyway any independant watchmaker can install one in any watch, as far as I know.

that makes me wonder, among rolexes many firsts, was the use of a date magnifier one of them?

Reading the following links regarding Eisenhower's Rolex, one gets the impression that Rolex was the first to use the cyclops, if they didn't actually invent it.

The story of Eisenhower's Rolex is very interesting. It's too bad that it had to devolve into a patisan political diatribe.

Still, it is an interesting read.

It was in the early 1950's, Rolex got a patent for the cyclops date magnifier whether it was there own, or a acquired patent not 100% sure.

Here's my beater with it's bubble:

From my avatar, you can guess that I am not a fan of the Cyclops but at least on my beater it does not seem to be a as obtrusive as the one on my EXPII before its removal.

Needless to say, the Cyclops is not exclusive to Rolex. You will find it on many other low end watches such as Evicta, Alpha, and of course, Rolex fakes.

Evicta?

Here's one of my Invictas and while I'm not a great fan of the cyclops, the magnification on my my 8926 Invictas is not so strong as to be obtrusive.

I love my Evictas.
