Submariner LV 2007 Value appreciating? Store or wear?

I forget what I paid for my Green Bezel Submariner, but it was just before a price increase. Maybe 5,000.

Just for the heck of it I was checking internet and E-bay pricing and it seem like this model has gone up significantly since when I purchased it. It seems to be going for 6,000-8,000 used or new. My watch is in excellent condition even though I wear it every day. It has some superficial scratches on the case and band, from wear and tear, but nothing significant.

Is the price increasing because they no longer make it? If so, I'm contemplating storing it in the safe to avoid any possibility of damage, but at the same time I love wearing it. I guess if it was damaged, Rolex could repair it, right? In your opinion will the value continue to increse?

The other watch is a SS Daytona and I don't want to wear that as a Daily...I've only worn it once or twice.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ed

The price is on the rise due mostly to "hype."

I would wear it. That's what you do with a watch.

Just cannot see the point in buying any Rolex watches if you are not going to wear them.Rolex watches are not all about will this or that go up it value etc.Its about owning and wearing one of the finest mechanical watches made today. And today no Rolex watch is rare even if they are discontinued just some made in smaller numbers like the millions of others.

I hope you're not buying watches as an investment??? How will you enjoy such a nice watch if it never sees the light of day? I say wear it, that's what it's designed for! :)

Sub LV was only produced for 7 years (even tough tens of thousands were produced) so the used prices would continue to go up. I would wear it and enjoy it!

Whether you store it or wear it, in about 20yrs, you will double your $$ on it.
If it is brand new, you might get 30% more --
Tell me this: Will you be around in 20yrs? What have is today and
tomorrow is not guaranteed ---you

Also 20yrs from now, what will your 5,000 dollars extra buy you? Not much ...

Also if you don't make it to 20yrs, then guess what? Your kids are gonna open
the safe, not you, and take that watch straight to the pawnshop --- all you lived with were
dreams that never realized--- that's pretty pathetic --- so wear the crap out of those
watches --- take care of them but wear them well....

So enjoy today!

It's never going to yield huge returns as an investment. It's a mass-produced factory watch from the world's largest manufacturer. Just wear the thing!

You own it, it doesn't own you!!! Enjoy, wear it. Wear it with a smile, knowing people are paying more for it today than you did, so smile when you look at the time!!!

Would agree but in reality it would be quite easy to change any 16610 sub into a LV.This is one of the main reasons that Rolex now makes the green inserts more expensive and harder to get hold of.But If and its a big IF the LV does start to get really collectible.I am sure there will be many franken 16610 around as the only real way to tell is ring Rolex to check its a LV as these plastic bits bits of paper/are the easiest to fake.

One would also have to replace the dial and hands. I don't see there being an epidemic of Franken LV's that would be hard to detect. Rolex makes all parts hard to obtain not just the green inserts.

It's not going to be a 50K watch anyways, it's no Comex sub.

So if it has increased it's value right now about a thousand bucks, what's the big deal?

Buying say a gold rolex will decrease by thousands of dollars as you walk out the store, but do you really buy the watch for the potential price rise or price decline? I don't. I buy them to wear them.

So enjoy that fine LV, and if you ever decide to sell it, then sell it and be done with it.

For your information I sold a like new LV about a year and a half ago for 4500 euro. No biggie, I was done with the watch at the time.

Definately wear it. I see no point in storing it away in some safe where you'll just miss having it on your wrist.

Wear it ....

My 16610 LV has won the monday through friday wrist war, and is begining to challenge the SS Daytona (black) for weekend time.

Because of the LV and Daytona my other watches (14060, 2254, 14022) have been in the penalty box for quite some time now.

As many have said, watches should be worn and enjoyed. Can't enjoy it if it's in a safe, imo.

The things that I like and have worked hard to get are going to be enjoyed, and for me enjoying them means using them.
Cheers

I think you already made up your mind.

We will say "wear it", but you are going to "store it"

That's ok, whatever float your boat.

For me, the only way I would truely enjoy a watch is to wear it. :)

Best of luck with your storage :D

Actually no I didn't make up mind when I wrote the initial question, but now I have and that is to wear it.

Thanks.

Everyone loves to compare today's market to what the future will be. It's a mistake IMO....people in the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's did NOT have as much expendable income and thus, Rolex purchases were no where NEAR the volume of this todays vast affluent society. In these years, people that did purchase a Rolex typically wore them and some of those made it to today's market where they sell for big money due to their scarcity. Buying any watch now and thinking it will be worth huge money in your lifetime is borderline silly, as you'll either be too old (possibly in a nursing home or dead) to reap the benefit anyhow. How's that for lifting your spirit?
