All the Frans Hens entries is me. I don't want to show off or anything but the original TURF was a great place. A bit like this. I won't mention it again.

Nope. I'm just the ol' clogger Thanks for the compliment pal. Mine was shipped in April 2000. I bet one of you're favourite dishes is a good home made lasagne with Barolo wine! Mmmm, very tasty, very sweet!

I think I recognized only one or two names there. But did TURF morph over the years. It looks like during the time you were a mod, Frans, it was a serious forum. Was there any levity, or did you just cull the more erudite musings?

And it looks like the old TURF had some of the same start up problems with hackers that we did here back in the old days (9 months ago ).

Well, a couple of days after I joined this terrific forum I decided to trace back my Rolex roots. The original TURF was gone, bar this section, the nuggets. I e-mailed the original owner and he still remembered me. Wow, a trip through memory lane. Apart from the fooling around (and I’m a culprit too) TURF was very much like TRF is now. Friendly and relaxed

Actually I HATE lasagna. Never liked it. Even as a kid. Macaroni, meatballs, sauce or gravy, however you call it, homemade sausage in the oil, homemade or pretty much any kind of red wine for that matter. Homemade bread, fresh provolone, dried long hots, tomato salad with fresh basil both from my garden with some garlic. Pizza made with the fresh tomatos. Capicola, prosucitto, almost anything but lasagna.

Agree Hans...

I used to read JFK's spirited defence of Tudors. There's also a good one on buying on auction which is still apropos.

So, uh, Frans, why did you leave? Feel free to avoid this question if you see fit.

Kayes, the original owner, decided to sell the forum to others. Why, I still don't know. It became Newturfers then and the new owners promised to stick with the formula. But to me it became a cold shower and after 4 or 5 posts I quit. After that (in 2002) I became ill and didn't work for 9 months and lost all interest in forums.

May I step off your couch now?

Seems that place has gone through a few mutations. Sad to see something start out with such promise and then slowly implode. But ya reap what ya sew, eh?

You must see this in the right context. The Swiss are very keen on protecting the Swiss watch status and made a law out of these rules. Champagne may only be called Champagne if it is produced in the Champagne district. The same goes for Cognac. A bottle of Cognac made in the USA doesn't exist, that is called Brandy. Only when a complete watch is made according to those rules, Swiss Made may be printed on the dial. This is to prevent manufacturers ordering all kind of parts in Switzerland, assemble the complete watch in China and still call it a Swiss watch. Hence the post "What is a Swiss watch".
