Is it the worst thing?

To go datejust smooth and oyster? I had 3 datejusts that didn’t sit on me well with jubilee and fluted. I really like the azzurro Roman dial, and somehow it looks better to me with smooth and oyster. Also want one Rolex with PCLs and Daytona is not coming in anytime soon. Thoughts?

Yes I think datejust with smooth and oyster is fine. The jubilee and fluted is more popular but so what? Nobody else’s opinion is as valid as yours.

If I was getting a datejust, that’s what I’d choose with absolutely no doubts. It’s not popular but it’s what I like - Different folk have different tastes I guess.

Wow that is a beauty! Thanks I appreciate the feedback. I know it is my decision but I trust opinions as well of forum members that own them.

Disadvantage is the bracelet, clasp and bezel are absolute scratch magnets. Have scratched bezel putting hand in pocket before. But is very comfy watch.

Just a clean look. Also with my BLNR I will wear it most often, so I can justify the PCLs as they won’t get so banged up with limited use.

Just because it’s not the best resale or the preferred combo doesn’t make it wrong. I love the DJ smooth , Oyster Bracelet for the fact that it is a simple, no craps given combo. Comfortable, classy. A watch for those that aren’t worried about resale value or flipping.

Great combo. I’m looking to get back into one myself.

The only thing that matters is what you want. There isn’t a one best configuration for all.

I think there’s room in collection for two eg datejust 41 smooth, blue and another or 36 perhaps in jubilee fluted green or something.

#nocrapsgivencombo. Might be the forum statement of the year!

So many variants in the DJ line up that there’s likely something for everyone. That’s one of the great things about the reference

Good luck deciding. It’ll be a nice addition to your BLNR

First, if you haven’t already, make sure you see the azurro in person. I owned one and while I thought it was a really good looking piece I found there to be a weirdo contrast issue with the hands in enough lighting conditions to bother me. To the direct question, I owned a blue stick, smooth, oyster DJ41 also and I wore it all the time, really liked that one a lot. It was prone to scratch, but not any worse than any other PCL style piece.

Remember the fluted bezel is gold so the price is more, and it will thus sell for more as a used watch over the smooth bezel models. With a DJ, it is only about what you will like and enjoy wearing. No configuration is correct or wrong.

That combo is what you like so all that matters, I personally prefer fluted bezel, but it’s all about different tastes, smooth with oyster looks great …

Good choice, go with what you like. Presumably no one else is wearing it but you.

Agreed. That is my preference in terms of DJ configuration.

I’m 100% smooth bezel on oyster for the datjust, my favorite Rolex reference of all. On the flip side, I despise the fluted/jubilee datejust and find it overly precious. Different strokes and all.

Dome bezel with oyster PCL definitely feels more sporty. Jubilee fluted is very shiny, and more formal.

So just depends on what you’re looking for.

Love mine.
