Help me decide AP 15500(grey dial) or 116719BLRO(blue dial)

Hello everyone

I understand that this is a subjective question and ultimately my decision but I like to hear feedback from those who have owned these pieces.

Looking to add to my collection and I believe I have narrowed it down to these 2 pieces. I know they are 2 completely different piece but I've lusted after both of them for sometime now and unfortunately I cant have them both.

Thanks in advance

SB

Don’t you have a 15400 that you said you never wear?

This is hard to compare. I have the 15500 Blue and 116719BLRO Meteorite dial. I love both, but they are so different. Go with the one you can't live without the most!

Do you have the option to get one or the other at MSRP? You didn’t mention that as an issue, but just wondering with regards to the RO if you would take a hit (compared to the 15400 you sold) and therefore be bothered by that too. Otherwise, unless you have other comparable ROs, the 15500 grey is hard to ignore IMHO. Good luck with your choice, both excellent pieces.

Unfortunately, most likely both would have to be from trusted grey dealer. There’s small chance I can get BLRO at retail.

If you can get 15500ST at MSRP, it's a lot cheaper, I would go for this one.

If you have to go at secondary market, I would go for WG GMT 116719BLRO.

15500ST at secondary market is too much premium and you might not like it since you sold 15400ST once before.

I have the grey dial 15500ST and the BLNR. If I had to keep only one, it would be the AP.

If you have another Rolex in the collection I would go for the 15500.
I have a 15400 and it’s such a beauty. But if I didn’t have a Rolex GMT already in my collection, I would get that first.
Rolex are more durable and reliable, AP is more fragile and delicate

Are you getting these at MSRP or current grey prices?

Is this still true these days on watches with newer movements with modern lubricants, ceramic bearings, and full balance bridges? Seems like they are pretty comparable to Rolex on paper, but maybe I am wrong.

I was given the choice of blue grey or black for the 15500. The grey is so special, it was my choice. Let us know what you decide.

I'd go with the 15500 if I had the wrist size for it. But I don't. On my 6.5 to 6.75 wrists the 15500 looks too large.

Tough one.
The white gold is pretty awesome to have on the wrist, but the AP just wears so nicely and is so damn gorgeous. I’ve been wearing the 400 more often lately (but I wore the hell out of the sub over the summer).
If you didn’t bond with the 15400 then maybe it’s time for the Rolex
Good luck

Personally I would go with the Rolex. I don’t like the 15500 at all…

You can't compare a Rolex to an AP IMO, so I would go for the AP if it was me, and i did.

Thanks again everyone and happy thanksgiving. I’ve decided to go with AP but now trying to decide between 15400 vs 15500 in SS….. vs 15300 in RG.

Did you like how your 15400 fit? I'm assuming the 15300 will be on a strap. How do you feel about strap vs bracelet?

Agreed they really nailed the design of this watch back in the days. But i must say Rolex is amazing too, the president bracelet is to die for as well.

As others mentioned OP, if you already had a RO before and didn't bond with it, might not be much different this time around.

As a current RG olive dial owner i definitely agree. But man the amount of bevels and cuts on the ap is insane.

Outstanding pic! I own the exact same duo and absolutely love them.
