Incoming SD4K

Well, I finally made up my mind to trade away what was my favorite watch, my 126660 DSSD. I had lost some wrist size, maybe my preferences were changing, it just wasn’t getting the wrist time it deserved. I was a bit sad to box that one up and ship it out, but the 116600 Sea Dweller has much of what I loved about the DeepSea in a more manageable size. I’ve still got the fully graduated bezel, date with no cyclops, a glide lock clasp, matte dial, HEV and the SD4K still feels like an overbuilt tank of a watch, just in a smaller package. After much pondering, it was the only watch that checked all the boxes I was looking for.

Out with the old:

In with the…older…but new to me:

After having it on my wrist for a week or two, the only thing I truly miss from the DSSD is that excellent external glide lock clasp. I slightly miss the domed crystal, but not as much as I thought, I also enjoy the thick raised crystal on the 116600. I also sold my Pelagos due to bezel lume bars repeatedly falling out, so I may replace that with a BB monochrome or 58 GMT for my domed bezel fix.

I love the SD4K and I regret not picking one up new when I had a chance. Such is life!

Looks great on the wrist. What are you driving ?

I remember being at the AD in Ocala when there was an AD there at the time end of 2017 or it as early 2018 ??? I had the opportunity to pick one up w a discount too, I walked off w a 114060 instead. Kind of wished now it was the SD4k.

Same here. When I bought my Pelagos in 2014, the salesman was trying to upsell me to a SD4K, he even offered an unprompted discount to try to sway me, but I passed. Talk about regrets, it was about half what I paid for this one

While unfortunately not an actual time machine I can take back to buy that SD4K a decade ago, it feels like it, that is my 1984 4Runner that I purchased in high school about 20 years ago. I drove that truck to the mall to drool on Rolex watches when I had no chance of buying one, and I still have a Rolex catalog in the glove box from when I started thinking I could, so it seemed fitting for an incoming post, thanks for asking. I'm not sure what year the catalog is from, I'll have to check, but it has a 16570 circled in it so it's been in there a while.

Whoa! Thank you for sharing. I am so glad that I asked. Such a cool car, too.

Affirmations are a wonderful thing. Glad you were able to get to a place were Rolex became a reality for you.

Enjoy it, friend!

One thing I did was remove diver extension and replace with 1/2 link (same as 40 Sub)

Now it fits perfectly.

Exactly right, I did the same with my DeepSea, chucked the divers extension in the box and never really thought about it again until I pulled everything out to sell it. When shopping, I noticed this one was not complete, missing the divers extension, and seemed fairly priced compared to the others that were complete sets to reflect that, so I had no problem keeping a little extra money in the watch fund this time. I do need to go pick up a half link for it though.

Best diver ever made, congratulations.

I really miss mine but that’s another story.

Enjoy that beast, have you removed the diver extension? I found it way more comfortable once I removed mine.

I'm interested, what is the story?

Yes the divers extension was pre-removed for me No issue with that here, it would have sat in the box. I did the same with the DeepSea and yes much more comfortable.

This is one of my favourite pieces. Congrats on the pickup.
It is the best and last true SD, Rolex has ever made IMO.

Bought it in October 2016 and it was stolen in December then discontinued a few months later. Uninsured.

Traded my mk1 Deepsea and 5digit Sub for a sd4k last summer. Don’t regret it even though many on here said they would not do that swap. Loved my Deepsea but the narrow bracelet of the mk1 made the watch top heavy even though it was a daily wearer of mine for many years. I wonder if I would have done the trade if I had the 12…or 13…Deepsea.

Was this deal a straight trade or did you add money? How much was the Sd4k if you don’t mind me asking and what year did you pick up?
