Differences Between Daytona 116520 Years?

As I'm looking at the Daytona 116520, what are the differences between the years? I know the 14/15 has the blue lume vs the green. Are any years more desirable than others? Are the APH models worth more or just a novelty?

Thanks!

The first years of this model, 2000 to I think 2004ish had thin hands and a shorter clasp than the older versions.

The so called APH dials are common. My 2009 V serial number watch has one and I'm sure that they were out well before this and for years after this. In fact I would be curious if you could get a non APH dial for a 2009 - 2012 watch?

I think there were minor changes to the finish of the inside of the clasp at one stage but I'm not sure when.

There are some dials which have long 27, 28, 29, 31, 32 and 33 minute markers and some have short markers.

All of these watches are basically the same. Some of the early white dials have a cream colouring.

There are two sides to pricing, the buyer's version and the sellers version. The buyer wants the price to be as low as possible and the seller wants it to be a high as possible. Sellers will often say that, for example, the APH dial is more valuable than a non APH dial. Only you can decide if it's more valuable to you or not. For some there is extra value in details you can barely see and quickly forget.

I personally prefer the early watches with the thin hands, but that's just my preference.

I suggest that you buy the watch which you like and try not to concentrate on details which the internet thinks add money.

Good luck in finding a watch you like.

haha I sort of figured as much. Just figuring out if it is worth holding out for a 14/15 for the better lume and newer clasp?

It isn’t necessarily better lume. I prefer thinner hands too.

I prefer the clasp on the later models. Hands as indicated are also thinner on the earlier run. Lume is a simple matter of preference.

I love my 116520 APH White Dial from 2012, the birth year of my dog.
I also love my other watches ( 126500 and a 22 sub) too but not as much

There were different clasps, not necessarily better clasps.

The best are the early 2000s white dials that turn cream…..thin hands like the zenith, small buckle

I think the ones that did this were from 2001 to 2003ish.

If you look up cream dial or crema dial you should find some for sale. I think some of them look OK, but I don’t know what I’d pay for one. Some sellers ask very high prices for them.

I'm going to check this one out - https://www.the1916company.com/rolex...ytona/4984514/

I don't love the price, but CPO, box, papers, and it's from the year I met my wife make it pretty interesting for me.

I would deffo chose the one with the newer clasp instead of the button hole clasp. I had both and prefer the size of the newer one.

$23,500!

I'm sure you've done your homework, but you can get that model box and papers for $18,500 from professional North American dealers (in-stock):

https://www.chrono24.com/search/inde...ckInfo=InStock

And they're Chrono prices, which you can usually negotiate-down 10%.

You could celebrate the year you met your wife by saving the extra $5000 and taking her to Venice for a week ...

Thanks. I didn't see any on there that were mint mint for that price. Maybe I'm missing something?

Op, the APH dial is a gimmick to get more money for it, they were mostly produced from late 2009-2011 there is nothing special or amazing about them. The early ones with the cream patina dial are also common although there is more of a premium because of the hype like the APH. Which is really a small typo on the dial.

This all depends on if you are a buyer or a seller.

I always say that condition is everything! The year does not matter. Previous polishing, bracelet and case condition, and the bezel. Very important on any Daytona.

So find one you like at a reasonable price, see as many as it takes to find the right one before you pull the trigger. Good Luck

How can you tell if it has been polished?
