Phillips Auction: Daytona 116520
Hello everyone, I’m not sure exactly if this watch is considered vintage so I’m sorry if I’m posting it in the wrong thread.
I would like to ask regarding this Rolex Daytona 116520 K series with cream dial. What does everyone think about it (condition, price etc.)? I see that in the subdial rings it has turned brown color as well, is this considered rare for this model (legit?) I have seen cream dial P or K series but not usually with this color subdial rings. Would love to hear all your thoughts. Thank you very much. https://www.phillips.com/detail/rolex/HK080120/1053 |

Cream dial is cool but the sub dials are awful brown. Many of the cream dials I see for 116520s still have silver sub dials. Still looks like a defect to me that will just get worse but what do I know...

My creamy P serial 116520 dial also has silver sub dials.
The brown sub dials on this watch whether defects or natural ruin the dial. Not for me. |

It's also further confirmation that you can't blindly trust major auction houses. They're nothing more than fancy eBay listings as far as I'm concerned.
Here's the key part of the description " ... a very few examples with a white dial featured a natural defect developed over time further heightening its rarity and collectability." Really? Has anyone seen another white Daytona that looks like this? |

I never knew a cream dial vintage variation existed until last week and haven't really looked too much into them. I find the cream hue of the dial surprisingly relaxing to look at. If this indeed is a naturally aged occurrence it adds another element into the mix of vintage variations and does provide an unexpected skew in the collectability curve since black has mostly appeared to be the more desirable dial colour.
Interestingly, Phillips, Sothebys, and Christies are running live watch auctions within three days of each other in Hong Kong starting from tomorrow. Madness!

I thought there already was a name for these? The Patrizzi Dial. Of course, TBH I don't know that much about Daytona's… https://www.bobswatches.com/rolex-bl...l-daytona.html

It could have gone through a fire and been exposed to heat while sitting in a safe

I think no one is saying for certain that this dial is manipulated, people are just sharing their opinion. I would really like to know yours on the subject, BTW.

That is no cream SS dial. The dial is taken from a yellow 18K or a TT Daytona. It's a Franken_watch! |

Many unusual things are possible with vintage Rolexes, especially with patina. But I'd expect to see other examples, at least a few, where this has happened to a white Zenith Daytona. I wouldn't even consider this watch until then. |

You have a lot to learn grasshopper I standby my earlier comment about the dial is from a ss gold TT Daytona ref#116523. The hour markers were also replaced from an SS to make it look like this is one of a kind dial. These makers are fairly easy to remove. Again, you wouldn't have known this would you? Now, some people would consider this an authentic watch because everything comes from Rolex To each his own ! |

I agree with you. That would be an awful lot of completely pointless work (ruining not one, but two dials?), all to wind up with a made-up “one of a kind” watch that doesn’t exist?

Sold for 275.000 HKD or 35.000 USD. Guess it could have fetched more without the brown sub dials.
