The Holy Grail.... $17 Million Dollar Rolex

Paul Newman’s very own Rolex Daytona just sold at auction for $15.5 million plus fees came to over $17 million!

I’d pass. Probably even if it were $500.

Well I wouldn't if I could sell it for more, but I get the point. A mass produced watch that was a poor seller, hyped up by auction houses and the nouveau rich. No horilogical value or significance at all really. Certainly not 15 million dollars worth. But the market is the market.

Here's what I don't understand: Is this like the only one in existence? Or is it so valuable because it was actually owned and worn by Newman? Is this like "The" Newman Daytona? Is that the point?

Let's be honest. That strap is really ugly.

It was Paul Newman's actual watch, and the name of the model 'Newman' Daytona has been in the popular Rolex lexicon for years. Doesn't seem overly surprising that it brought what it did.
