Itching for the SD-C
After it's announcement I was highly interested in acquiring the new SD. Looked at countless pics and LOVED it.
When I first handled it, I was blown away and it was everything I hoped it would be. Waited, to make sure it wasn't a spontaneous purchase (I've learned). So I went back a week later and wasn't as impressed. Felt disappointed and told myself it wasn't meant to be. Well, now weeks later, I'm having the same yearning for the SD as I initially did. Gonna check it out again this week and hope it sings to me on the wrist... Just had to spill my feelings here as I don't think my wife wants to hear it:) Here's a pic from the first time I saw the 116600. |

Definitely on my short list. It will be around for awhile so taking your time is a good move. Personally, I love everything about it.

IMHO it is the closest to perfect in a Rolex diver you'll find. Unless you want some colour, there is no better.....except for maybe a BPFF, but thats another story ;-)

Go for it Travis, its a very versatile watch! Everything about the SDc, the slimmer lugs, minimal gloss dial, a more balanced weight, makes this model a great watch to wear for a long time.

You think like I do Travis. I purchased the IIc right when it came out without considering it. Didn't work out for me and flipped it at a loss.
I wasn't expecting to like the SDc, but I tried it on and was blown away. Perfect proportions all around. If the clasp would be a smidge smaller it would be perfect. I'm in my "cool off" phase to make sure I want it for sure. Also, I'd rather buy gently used. Funny, I'm also in a "cool off" period in a speedmaster also. So many watches, so little money! Hope it finds a way to your wrist along with the DSSD on Iso.

Great looking watch Travis, I bet the second time around it doesn't sing to you, it'll SCREAM out! Post up some pics when you decide to take her home!

I think the SDC is the perfect dive watch!! The BPFF was perfect for the 50th anniversary release but 45mm is just slightly too large.

I dunno... I think either it "clicks" or it doesn't. No reason to debate too much, as there are so many great watches out there. But, then again, with this reference, there isn't much risk with buying and flipping anyway, so, pre-congrats, Travis!

Buy it right, and your risk is minimal. I had a hard time leaving it behind when it first arrived locally but once its was offered at the right price I jumped. I see it as the fall back, if I had to sell all but only kept one, watch.
But that's me. Go visit again and see if the love sticks...the real test is when it's time to pay. |

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I tried on the SD4000 Saturday night and I have to say I was let down. After Basel, this was a watch I thought could be my only Rolex, so there was a lot of anticipation for me. The lug proportions were certainly better than the SubC, but that's really where it ended for me. The bezel seemed too busy with the full/half tick marks all around the bezel and the end links sitting above the lugs were aesthetically very unpleasing to my eyes.
That's the beauty of Rolex with so many choices...not every Rolex is for everyone. I know there are a lot of extremely happy SD4000 owners out there. |

What happened to you is happening to me. I was impressed with the web videos and photos but when I saw it and tried it on it wasn't as impressive. Still thinking of it though

Think it through. The SDC isn't going anywhere. Good luck!

I had the same issue with the DSSD when it first came out, and to me the font on the MK I dial wasn't as nice as would have liked for some reason.
But I couldn't put my finger on it at the time until after the MK II dial came out, then it sort of fell into place why I didn't go for it originally. Other than that that I loved it overall, but I passed on it because it didn't sing to me. Then when the MK II dial came out. I was hooked and bought it straight away, and I've been wearing it everyday since. Now with the MK III dial I'm not a fan of that variation. Sometimes it can be he smallest details that throw one off. I saw the SDC the other day and absolutely loved it. When I tried it on it felt so small in comparison to the DSSD, but it still had great wrist presence. It's a wonderful watch in every respect except for the font of the "S" on the dial(it's like the MK I DSSD). Perhaps they'll change it like they did on the DSSD Then i'll take another serious look at it. Take your time. As other have said, it's not going anywhere soon. After it's been out a while they may be inclined to offer you a discount. Rolex may even do a "Red" version |

I finally tried one last week at Rolex NYC. I thought it was great, but only marginally more so than the SubC. And not so much better to command the price. It will be interesting to see how the prices are (used) in a few years.
