Pepsi ceramic bezel hairline crack

No idea how it got there. Can live with it just fine but would it be covered under normal warranty? Best pictures I could get attached. There is a crack in the red part and basically straight thru the 1 in the 14.

Didn’t even notice it but my friend did with watch in hand. He has a good eye for this kind of stuff.
Like I said, fine to live with it, but if it’s covered under warranty, might as well replace.....

I would bet they replace that for you for free.

Take it to RSC and just tell them you cant remember dinging it at all and the watch was never dropped. These things dont cost them much to replace and will probably do it for you whilst you wait.

This. It's very unlikely for RSC to charge you. They will take care of it

I can tell you pretty much that Rolex will not replace that free of charge.

A watchmaker whom I used to know, broke one while trying to install it for reasons he didn't divulge, but he had to eat it, as they say.

This is a good example why Rolex shouldn't put a ceramic bezel insert on the Explorer II.

I could live with that small crack, but I would not be inclined to let it go until it cracks enough to get any worse.

If there is no evidence the damage has arisen as a result of negligent usage (other marks on case or bezel indicating an impact) or third party watchmaker intervention then Rolex must honor its 5 year warranty as a defect that originated from its manufacture of the watch in the Rolex GMT manufacture/assembly.

This is a good photo of the situation. Zoom on iPhone is amazing as it’s barely discernible to the naked eye

RSC will definitely charge you. I had to replace my pip and ceramic on my sub a couple of years ago and it cost me circa £400.

looks like a stress crack, there is no sign of impact on the edge of the bezel. Looks like workmanship or manufacturing defect. If so Rolex would/should replace it under warranty.

Thats a bad crack actually when you zoom into it.

I'd be pushing RSC that this is a manufacturing defect no matter what they say. Its very hard to tell with the naked eye and thats why you didnt catch it when you bought the watch.

For a few hundred dollars I honestly think they will replace it for you for free. You wont know if you dont ask and if they say no just escalate it. Thats what I would do.

No way I'd leave it like that.

Did you expose your watch to sudden changes in temperature on localized areas?

I sometimes had glass break by having them out of the washer, pour ice in it with water. Not supposed to break its unless a fault was present.

Don't be so sure. RSC will likely not charge and provide replacement free of charge. In fact, I recall a couple of years ago a member broke his BLRO ceramic insert, totally his fault, and they changed it for him free of charge as good will.

Good luck OP! Let us know what happens

RSC will replace it for abt $400. You’ll get a green pouch as bonus.

Sorry but thats one of the many downfalls of ceramic inserts over the aluminium ones. But I hope Rolex replaces it for you free of charge, if not its going to be quite expensive to replace.

What do you mean? I had a ceramic bezel replaced by RSC for free in the past due to a very similar crack but mine was around the pip.

This was almost 12 months after owning it and they did it for free under warranty so I must be from planet pluto since you think its out of this world. LOL

Does not look like you broke it but rather it came like that from factory. No signs of damage or impact at all. Your RSC center will take care of it free of charge. Warmth will cover it.

Why would they replace it for free? It’s warranty work or you’re paying for it.

It's always interesting to see the extremes of opinion on a basic question like this - "Definitely will" and "Definitely will not".

I'm in the "Definitely will" camp and wish you the best of luck OP. Let us know the outcome.

If all else fails, read the warranty. Rolex’s warranty language says, “Rolex guarantees the proper functioning of its watches for a period of five years from the date of purchase. The Rolex guarantee excludes normal wear-and-tear (notably the wear-and-tear of non-metal bracelets and straps), loss, theft, or damage due to misuse.” That gives them plenty of outs to decline coverage, if they want to. But, if there’s no evidence of misuse, I can’t imagine they want to argue that their cerachrome bezels are subject to cracking as normal wear and tear or that cracking is somehow within the scope of “proper functioning”. So they should cover it. And, if hey don’t, as suggested above, you should escalate it. You also should insist the RSC give you their reason for denying coverage in writing.

Love that shade of red btw. Keep it mind if its replaced by RSC it could possibly be a different shade considering there are so many variations out there. But may not matter to you and I hope it gets fixed.
