New White Gold Submariner

Many of my friends do not like the blue shade of this watch. However visiting Singapore I saw it in 'Hour Glass' one of Rolex AD there. I wore it and fell in love. However the price after discount was USD 23,400.-. May be the Singapore dollar is very high compared to US now. I wonder what is opinion of members here who have seen it, wore it or now own this watch ?

I have only tried it on - but I have to say I love the dial color and IMO it works very well with the WG.

I have a friend who bought it for S$33,000 or about US$23,500 from the Hour Glass. It's a beautiful watch, very attractive and very heavy. The blue suits the white gold very well, much better than yellow gold IMO.

One problem though - the gold scratches easily...

Imran - it's a beautiful watch... the colour, the weight... and has great 'wrist presence'

Cheers

I've had one on and it's really a stunning piece. As stated the "scratch factor" on a watch like this is a concern.

Same here , I had the change to put it on last summer at my AD . You really get that heavy solid feeling that only a gold watch can give you . Personally I might grow tired of the blue face pretty easily , I will use that as the excuse not to buy it as it is a bit over my budget for one watch . It will of course scratch easier then SS . They all scratch eventually and you can polish that out , no worries . The scratch factor would be less determining to me then the price tag .

Personally, the wg takes out the "tool" factor appeal of this watch, which is it's blood line.

The sub was not supposed to be a "bling" watch...

I'd get a 116520 in this price range than a sub.

I've only seen this watch once or twice in my life. Its absolutely gorgeous. At first, I didn't like how the blue looks but after a while, I think it has grown on me. But unfortunately, the price is out of my budget b/c I think it will be a valuable watch in the future. Not many are out there and not many people demand it, thus not many are produced yearly.

i like it a lot too...but if money was no object, I would still have a hard time paying that much more money simply due to the fact that the band is white gold...if the mechanism itself was better then I would be more understanding....but in terms of the color....I am a fan...

I am looking forward to hearing confirmed details on the new SS Sub....

If I won the lottery tomorrow, it would be the first watch on my wrist, but alas, I need to win the lottery.

It is my favorite watch that I lust after, but cannot afford. A true grail. (for me)

Imran, I saw this watch at my local Rolex AD. It is absolutely gorgeous! I really like the fact that to the casual observer it does not necessarily appear to be gold and can pass for SS. Very understated, but with the feel of real gold.

Unfortunately, it is way out of my price range. If I won the lottery, I would buy it in a minute!

Me too and it's all good as far as I'm concerned! Scratches on the WG wouldn't bother me a bit! Wondering why I spent that much money would probably keep me awake a night though!!

I am a big fan of the WG Sub Date with the blue dial/bezel insert.
Unfortunately, I am not a big fan of the 30K price.
I see many posts expressing concern that the white gold Rolex sports watches are more prone to scratches than the same model in stainless steel.
It is my understanding from an AD that the gold is combined with platinum creating a alloy that is no more prone to scratches than all stainless steel watches.
Perhaps someone can clarify the white gold "softness" issue.

Like others here I really like the WG submariner. The blue goes very well to the white gold, and it looks much better in real life than on pictures. Of the gold submariners of all times this is my favourite (the 1680/8 taken into consideration...) The heft and the maxi dial is perfect for this watch. I wouldn't mind owning one, although it would not be the watch I'd use most of the time. The colour needs to be matched with what you are wearing (at least if you ask me), so it would get a maximum of 30% wrist time with me (I have a similar issue with the orange hands and markers of the Milgauss, and the green colour which is a fairly "difficult" colour for me. I am pretty much monochrome when it comes to watches: Black, white, and a splash of red occasionally).

Best,

A

WHY won't Rolex make a WG GMT? They are both "Tool" Watches, I agree the Submariner is a Rolex Classic but so is the GMT! Don't they even use the same case? So they could put the GMT movement in the WG case (Could be wrong on that one).

I think it would be an outstanding watch!

They do make WG GMT's. They just happen to be blinged out with stones and are very expensive!! (US $50K+ on up!)

I disagree WG and SS look the same in appearance, If I put a SS Sub and a WG sub next to each other it would be hard to tell the difference in looks. There is nothing blingy about the WG Sub and the new Blue color is much better IMHO...

The blue dial/bezel matches so much the WG Sub.. I am moving now toward liking the new blue color of the Subs..
I did not try the WG one but would any one take it for a Scuba diving ???

I love the white gold sub, looks really sharp with the blue ceramic bezel, blue dial and polished center links, the smurf blue color definately grows on you the more you see it....
