New Omega Speedy lost 7 minutes of time. Stopped overnight..
This is terrible.
My soon to be wife surprised me with a new Speedmaster Professional two weeks ago. I noticed that it lost nearly ten minutes of time the other night. I had the flu or something like it and chalked it up to not wearing it or winding it. Well Monday I wake up and set it then fully wind it and go to work. Yesterday morning I wind it and wear it. I noticed it was seven minutes slow. I had just set it to my cell phone Monday morning as a marker of comparison. This morning it was stopped completely. It kept perfect time yesterday until I went to sleep around 11:30 last evening. I woke up this morning and checked it. It has stopped at 3:55 AM. I moved it and it started running again. It sets and winds smooth as silk. I just don't understand it. I'm not sure what to do. She purchased it online from what appears to be a reputable company. I simply would like a new watch which I don't think is unreasonable. They've informed me that I can return it then they will service it but likely not replace it. Its only two weeks old and was not what I consider an inconsequential amount of money. They were adamant about whether it had been worn. Yes I informed them that it had. Who would purchase a wrist watch and then not wear it. I'm ready to just send it to Omega and know that it will be done right. I'm at a loss here. |

Personally, If it's still under factory warranty, I'd send it Omega.

That's a shame but you'll have that thing working like it should in no time.

Afterall, no matter how reputable a company, devices can have defects...just hope the warranty repair is well done :)

The symptoms you mentioned could also be a bad job of setting the seconds hand at the factory. There could be something under that subdial, or a slight finishing anomaly on the underside of that tiny hand.
If you have a trusted watchmaker nearby have him tilt it and look with a loupe or microscope. I wouldn't open it due to possible voiding of the warranty. But he may be able to see if it is too closely set. Something like this pic displays - a visible gap should be under the seconds hand. And it may keep stopping at the same point in the hand's orbit. Hi. I purchased a new Omega Speedmaster in Jan 2016. Had always wanted one, as my dad owned one when I was a child. After a few weeks, the watched stopped completely (I wind it every AM). I wound it, and all seemed fine until several weeks later, I was unable to depress the start/stop chrono button. It was just physically immobile. The AD sent it back to Omega. It was returned 1 month later and has been fine since. The AD said Omega diagnosed the watch problem was from being magnetized. Right....

You can and should buy a demagnetizer :-) It is only $10 on eBay. Try and see if it works.
