Back in Feb, I posted in WTB for a BNIB Daytona. After I found one, I followed up my thread with another post stating I found one.

Today, I get the following message from a new member jdmlounge:

Yes, sounds quite suspicious. I also got a PM from a new member with zero posts. She told me that she saw and handled the exact same watch I posted that a friend of mine bought in a Paris antique store. She even went further and said that she regretted not buying it at the time and asked if my friend was willing to sell her the watch. The PM sounded sincere so I replied letting her know I'd check (though I haven't yet). Bit of a different experience from yours but a PM from a new user with zero posts nontheless.

way to stay alert people. unfortunately, scammers can and will come into our community to try to rip others off. use common sense and report any suspicious activity to the administrators.

When i went to sell my dj, I got flooded with zero post newbies wanting me to sell it to them. I thought it a bit odd, but eventually did due diligence and did end up selling it to a zero poster. Went fine, but definitely raised some concerns. Just because they are on trf does not give them any special status . Buy the seller or sell the buyer!

someone has a watch to sell they just joined and cant post in the FS section, so they try WTB. does it mean they are scammers?

I get offers on watches from 0 posters alot. I tend to ignore them. They are usually. " Hey I'll give you 300$ for your watch" etc

I don't necessarily agree that just because someone doesn't have any posts that automatically makes him a scammer. I look at TRF at least once a day and spend most of my time looking in the For Sale section, where you can't post unless your selling. It is rare that I respond to other threads like this one. And I'm pretty sure I'm not alone since this thread has now been viewed over 200 times but only has 11 posts. I have been contacted by potential buyers who had little, if any posts, but had excellent references. I do agree that length of membership could be a better indicator.

I know someone who has joined TRF in 2007, with 0 post still. Would I vouch for them? Hell Ya! He is the most honest person I know!

Do your due diligence, however, just because they have 0 post count does not mean they are scammers.

Any attempt to circumvent the rules will not be viewed favourably......if you participate or are knowingly concerned in such circumvention, then you risk finding yourself in trouble.

I'm a newbie with 0 post and I am interested in trading up my watch. In fact this is my first post. I've contacted two sellers who replied back to me. I like to think I'm honest and hope that the other person at the other end is honest as well. I guess it works on both side and like everyone else said. Just do your do diligence.

Each time I place a WTB ad I get contacted by users who just joined and have zero posts. Happens frequently.

The red flag for me isn't the post count, its the combination of post count, join date and the circumstances in which they made contact. In my case, I was clear that I purchased the watch I was looking to buy so my suspicion was compounded.

Additionally, I think there is a difference between a buyer and seller. The seller controls the transaction. It takes due diligence, common sense, and some caution to sell. As a buyer, you have to add a whole lot of faith into the mix.

I posted a WTB last week and was contacted by 2 "sellers" both having registered on the day they sent the PM. I sent one to the moderators today. I am not sure what they can do. After all its really up to us. I told the first one I would only deal though a 3rd party, told the second one no dice with no posts, no history and apparently just joining to sell me a watch.

Most of us agree that its best to buy the seller. I think sellers need to establish themselves or at least be established in another community (ebay, etc.) in order to be taken seriously. New members responding to WTB ads will always be suspect - why here and now? If it's too good to be true...

I just received ANOTHER pm from a user who just joined, has zero posts, happens to have the watch I am looking for, and priced it well below current market. ON TOP OF THAT IT WAS IN ALL CAPS.
